Caffeine has been widely used as a medium that stimulates our alertness when we have no sleep nights. If I didn’t sleep well previous night, I would grab a cup of coffee or tea in order to enhance my alertness at the particular time. We do this whenever we have to be alert. While it is proven that overconsumption of caffeine leads to grave effects, we will, however, have it forgetting all the negative effects.
To overcome the problem and to offer us a better time and dosage to drink, which increases alertness even if the consumed caffeine is significantly less than usual, principal investigator and senior author Jaques Reifman, PhD and his team invented an automatic optimized algorithm that tells you when and how to consume caffeine in order to get maximum alertness.
"We found that by using our algorithm, which determines when and how much caffeine a subject should consume, we can improve alertness by up to 64 percent while consuming the same total amount of caffeine. Alternatively, a subject can reduce caffeine consumption by up to 65 percent and still achieve equivalent improvements in alertness."

They used a mathematical model, which does its job using psychomotor vigilance task (PVT). PVT, predicts the impacts of sleep as well as consumption of caffeine, thereby combining it with the algorithm, which gives results such as when and how to consume caffeine in order to get maximum alertness without any health risks.
By giving inputs as a maximum allowed caffeine, the researchers found out the strategy of caffeine dosage, which gave the results of not only when to consume to get maximum alertness which is up 64% amplified but also how to lower caffeine consumption with almost 65% less still get same alertness. This method seems to be intriguing and hopes it will be developed more so that we all can use it.
