Dialysis is a treatment that is needed to clean out the blood of dialysis patients. The method that I am using was the Hemodialysis which is the direct cleaning of the blood by pumping it out from from the body via either a catheter that is placed in the arteries near the neck, shoulder, or even in the groin area of the patient. It is usually done as a temporary access for the machine to get a high volume of blood so that it can clean much of the patient's blood.
The patient also must be created with an access for a long term use and that is called an arteriovenous fistula where they graft the artery and vein together to form a highly pressurized blood access. It makes the superficial vein in the arm act like an artery and that is the access that the nurses prick or cannulate in order for the dialysis machine to get a high pressure and volume of blood to be cleaned.
Dialysis is a frequent treatment and with a busy dialysis center like where I get my treatment the machines sometimes only have four hours break per day. So sometimes they breakdown like what happened today. I may had been hooked at this moment if not my machine got broken down and it postponed my schedule for more than 3 hours.
Most of the dialysis machines in my center where I go for my treatment are new but the one that I am using was the old machine sso its tubing connections are quite leaky and it messes up the delicate sensors of the machine. If that happens well they have to fix that so that we could resume operations.
These are the things that I encounter with my dialysis center and I have to be patient about it because I have no other choice but to wait until I could get the blood cleaning that I needed.
