Epigenetic - Do you know what it is ? It’s how environmental factors, such as diet, life style or disease have influence on our genes in regulating the DNA by switching them On and Off.
Yesterday, a research from the Max Planck Institute of Immunobiology and Epigenetics in Freiburg have been published stating that we now have proof that mother's epigenetic memory is essential for the development and survival of the new generation.
Means that we inherit more than just genes from our parents. We are a product of how the external world affected our mothers and mother’s ancestor.

I am not an expert in biology but this finding gives weight to my passion of understanding how environmental factor influence women’s health, especially mothers.
Do you know what else is inherited from our mother only? Our Mitochondria!
(sperm cells have mitochondria but they’re broken down shortly after fertilization).
Mitochondria - Do you know what is ?
It’s the most important cell organelle in the body. It uses oxygen to generate chemical energy for your body. Without the energy the mitochondria makes the cell wouldn't be able to transport materials through the membrane.
They are more crucial for your brain and your muscles because they consume larger amounts of energy than other organs. Your brain’s weight consumes only 2% of your overall body weight, it needs 20% of your resting metabolic rate to function properly - quite a lot of calories is needed just to be able to think.
Mitochondria create ATP (adenosine triphosphate) a molecule that transports energy to every cell in your body, you can view ATP as the "molecular unit of currency" and mitochondria as power plants of your body.
There’s tones of helpful informations to learn about mitochondria, don't you think it’s worth knowing them better so you can optimize and create new ones? All for the benefit of your health, your longevity and transfer to your offsprings?
Even if your aren't planing to have kids or you don't care about longevity, improving the health of these tiny organism inside your body could prevent you to get neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s, diabetes and obesity, autoimmune conditions, cancer, heart disease and stroke.
Kreb cycle in more details (Energy and Mitochondria)
( I’ve noted when there’s a mention about what vegetarian lack of ... “Cartinine”)
Aging and nutrition (oxydation)
(Regarding the last info about vegetarian diet, I think there have been more recent study, with regards of essential nutrient found in meat to support our mitochondria)
More details about ALCAR (Cartine - what vegeterian lack)
Side notes
I have to continue my learning on diet, basics are met and I have no doubts that increasing quantity of vegetable that I eat is beneficial for my health (choosing fresh, toxins less, choosing some more than other with regards of vitamines and sugar ). I also know that, not all meat is created equal and how animals exploitation makes me feel sad.
I want to learn more about meat consumption and health of mitochondria. This will probably come as a next article.
It’s surely easy to feel skewed about nutrition and health studies and contradictory facts. Though I consider important to stay informed of new findings.
