Welcome to my Hebrew reading & language series.
Genesis 24:5-9
Abraham had an idea last week. He realized that he was very old and called his oldest servant to his side. He wanted to make sure his son never went back to the land that Abraham had left as a young man but still wanted his son to have a wife from his homeland.
Now we pick up that story where we left off. The servant is having doubts about a young girl being too scared to travel to a far-away place with a stranger. Would her father let her go to another land?
"The same God of the heavens, YHVH, who took me from my father's house and my homeland, who spoke and promised this land to my offspring, he shall send his messenger ahead of you. And you shall take a wife for my son from that land, but if she is not willing to go with you, you are free from this oath to me. Just do not return there with my son." said Abraham.
The servant put his hand under Abraham's thigh and swore to him regarding all he had said.
The story continues next week as the servant leaves for Mesopotamia...
