Forky Thoughts:
By now almost everyone on the Steem blockchain has been inconvenienced or irritated by the hard fork. No doubt it could have been done better and there are still issues to work out. I'm not going crazy over the situation because I'm convinced investors, devs and witnesses aren't going to give up that easily. No, they don't want to crush small accounts, especially at the bottom of a severe bear market. I believe adjustments will be made to help smaller accounts interact more, it's simply a matter of time. Am I disappointed? YES. But tech screw-ups happen all the time and I'm not taken by surprise.
Even the poorly-named Steem knock-off that some are salivating over will experience bumps in the road — and some will experience this joy first-hand. 😂
One of the statements I keep hearing is that the witnesses are a "bunch of amateurs", implying that a "serious" tech company would NEVER let a similar disaster happen. This is laughable thinking.
Although not they're blockchained based, just recently, Facebook had a data breach and up to 50 million users' personal info has been compromised. Of course, the same people that are still raging about HF20 and how the devs are a bunch of knuckle-dragging apes don't notice. Someone at Facebook done ****ed up. It happens in large tech companies too.
Further personal experience with big tech screw-ups:
In 2015(?) a mandatory Apple update wiped out the audio and videos on my (borrowed) iPad — and iTunes is always a complete bitch to use. Seriously, screw Apple. Now, I have videos restored on my iPad, but Apple stupidity wiped out the thumbnails (it's now a sea of gray boxes!) and I'm not going to torment myself by re-uploading all those videos again with their inferior, head-ache inducing proprietary software. Morons.
Android just updated on my phone and now the interface is no longer intuitive. I'll have to do homework to figure out how to delete apps — it's no longer simple. It's an unbelievably clunky and confusing user experience and five steps in the wrong direction. Idiots, forcing a cr*ppy UI update on everyone!
I hope you never have to sign into Google AdSense. You'd think the largest tech company wouldn't make their interfaces into a fever-dream. Also, as a YouTube creator, I'm sickened by the annoying new creator dashboard and dread the day that it's mandatory to use. El Bastardos!
Do you enjoy Windows updates? Seems no matter how hard I try to prevent them from occurring automatically, they always find a way regardless. My system will slow to a crawl and I'll try to shut down to find that Windows Updates had everything to do with the headaches. Once, immediately after a presentation, Windows Updates kicked on. I didn't have my battery in my notebook, so I was FORCED to wait ten extra minutes in order to safely shut down. I had a meeting about a 30 minute drive away, so I showed up LATE because of Window's odious and forceful updates. These losers are true experts — in creating a barf-inducing user experience. Accursed SWINE!
More security hacks! Adobe even had a security hack and users accounts were compromised. I consider of all the large companies who have been hacked and all the fun I had scrambling to check my credit to make sure their vulnerabilities didn't affect me. Chimp-clowns!
Conclusion/TL;DR
The evidence is clear — mistakes, oversights, unprofessionalism and bad UX design plague the large as well as the small tech companies. Obviously, most here have a common goal of making Steem a better place, but outrage should be tempered by patience. Here, we at least have the advantage of having our voices heard. What are the odds that I could interact with the CEO of Apple and tell them directly how much iTunes sucks?I've re-shuffled my witness stack as well as given more thought toward assisting smaller accounts. Major personal set-backs this year have derailed my Steem activity and I'm hanging on for dear life, but I haven't given up. If smaller accounts are still hurting badly in a few weeks, I'll gladly join the voices of protest, but I'm not going to jump ship.
