Well the ones who are reading my blog frequently do know that I am not a fan of some features of the HF21! The one which borders me the most is the 50/50 split. But I do think that I can life with that.
Yesterday I did write that the time of being able to earn a decent amount of SP for a newcomer by writing comments was passed. This had nothing to do with people not willing to upvote comment but due to the fact that the value of Steem did get depleted. As a result it was impossible for the smaller account to upvote a comment which had a value above the dust threshold and still keeping a decent amount of Voting Power left behind to curate posts! Probably also some bigger account did delegate too much SP towards voting bots, so that they did have the same problem.
But also without the delegation it was much harder for these big accounts to spread enough upvotes. The value of their votes also got a big dive, so they also started to run into the problem of maintaining a decent amount of VP.
@preparedwombat did replied on this part which started to make me think. Yes, this happens once in a while!
The conclusion of my brain wave is that HF21 could be the revival of the upvoting of comments again! I know that there are still people who kept on doing this. Also they had to decrease the % and amount of upvotes they were giving but they kept on going! Great examples of this are @abh12345 and @tarazkp.
But will HF21 also motivate others and even smaller accounts to start doing the same?
Why would/could/people people start to upvote comments again?
Well most comments which are upvoted are only upvoted by 1 steemian. In this case the writer of the comment did get 75% of the upvote value and the other 25% does roll back to the curator of the comment, in most cases the writer of the post. This was before HF21! After HF21, the writer of the comment will only get 50% of the upvote and the curator the other 50%.
In my case upvoting a comment would be much smarter than upvoting a post. Why? When I do upvote a post, I will have to battle it out with lots of other Steemians to get a part of the curation. Most Steemians are capable of giving much higher upvotes than I am able to! At the moment a 100% of me is just below $0.04. But when I would upvote a comment which is a reply to my master piece, I do know that around 50% of this $0.04 would flow back to me!
Not only that I do increase the engagement of my readers by rewarding them for reading and leaving a genuine comment behind, which of course attracts others to do the same on my post!
For some accounts the scenario written above could be more rewarding then when upvoting a post with 100%!
But there are a lot of stars that need to be aligned for this to be happening! For once the ROI of delegating to the bidbots should decrease, giving people a reason to decrease their delegation!
From now on, I will reserve 1 100% upvote for the comments on my post! I will try to spread it as much as possible!
It would be great if others would follow this example!
Cheers,
Peter
