During my last travels I was almost always in the south of my country Argentina, which means low temperatures during the whole day or at least in a large part of it. This cold weather always makes you want to eat some substantial food, if possible very caloric and consistent, which creates the perfect scenario for my favourite food to come into action. For as long as I can remember, my favourite meal has been lentil stew, and when I see the temperature drop a few degrees, I don't even hesitate to make it. Not to brag, but this stew comes out very well, not only for me, but for everyone who has had the pleasure of trying it 😂.
En este último tiempo de viaje casi siempre estuve en el sur de mi país Argentina, lo que implica temperaturas bajas durante todo el día o al menos en una gran parte. Este clima tan frío siempre te da ganas de comer alguna comida sustancial, si es posible muy calórica y consistente, lo que crea el escenario perfecto para que mi comida preferida entre en acción. Desde que tengo memoria, mi comida preferida es el guiso de lentejas, y cuando veo que la temperatura baja unos grados, ni dudo en que es buen momento para prepararla. No es por alardear pero este guiso me sale muy bien, dicho no solo por mí, sino por todos los que tienen el agrado de probarlo 😂.
Cooking is not something that really fascinates me, but when it comes to making lentil stew, I do it with great pleasure. Maybe it's because I'm so excited to eat a delicious dish that I put all my love into making it just right. This is a meal that can't be cooked in small quantities, so I always make a full pot to share, or to last me a few days. It's quite a ritual, and I always end up accompanying it with a red wine, before and during 😃.
Cocinar no es algo que me fascine realmente, pero cuando se trata de hacer guiso de lentejas, lo hago con muchísimo gusto. Quizás porque estoy tan emocionada por comer un plato delicioso que pongo todo mi amor para que salga bien. Esta es una comida que no puede cocinarse en pequeña cantidad, por lo que siempre preparo una olla llena para compartir, o para que me dure unos cuantos días. Es todo un ritual esta preparación, que siempre termino acompañando con un vino tinto, antes y durante 😂.
Lentil stew is as simple and delicious as it gets. Just remember to soak the lentils, which are so tough that they require at least 24 hours of hydration, unless you want to boil them for a few hours. Everyone has their own ingredients for this stew, but in my case, in addition to the lentils, I use onions, garlic, red pepper, carrots, meat, smoked chorizo and tomato sauce. Sometimes I also add some rice if I want to make it even more filling, but it's not necessary 😃.
El guiso de lentejas es lo más sencillo y delicioso que puede haber. Solo hay que acordarse a tiempo de poner en remojo las lentejas, que son tan duras que requieren al menos 24 horas de hidratación, a menos que quieras estar hirviéndolas por unas cuantas horas. Cada uno tiene sus ingredientes para este guiso, pero en mi caso, además de las lentejas pongo cebollas, ajo, morrón, zanahoria, carne, chorizo ahumado y salsa de tomate. En ocasiones también agrego algo de arroz si quiero que rinda aún más, pero no es necesario 😃.
In my case, I like to finish boiling the lentils in one pot while I prepare the sauce in the other. At the end of the preparation, I put everything together and finish cooking when everything is soft at last. The aroma of the stew is unmistakable, and I always like to see everyone's face when they taste it. So far I haven't seen any disgusted faces, so I guess I'm doing things right. In the final dish, some people add some fresh cheese, but I prefer not to, so I can have the pure taste of lentils that I love 😃.
En mi caso, me gusta terminar de hervir las lentejas en una olla mientras preparo la salsa en la otra. Al final de la preparación, junto todo y termino la cocción cuando todo esta blando al fin. El aroma del guiso es inconfundible, y siempre me gusta ver la cara de todos cuando lo prueban. Por ahora no vi ninguna cara de disgusto, así que supongo que estoy haciendo bien las cosas. En el plato final, hay quienes agregan algo de queso fresco, pero yo prefiero que no para poder tener el sabor puro de las lentejas que me encanta 😃.
Sometimes I would like life to have something like a set of statistics that allow us to know some interesting facts. In my case, they would show that I made lentil stew more than 50 times. I prepared this dish for my family, for friends, for hostel guests and even for myself. I think I bless the day I learned to make my favourite food, because now I can make it anywhere ❤️.
A veces me gustaría que la vida tenga algo así como una serie de estadísticas que nos permitan conocer algunos datos interesantes. En mi caso, mostrarían que hice guiso de lentejas más de 50 veces. Preparé este plato para mi familia, para amigos, para huéspedes de los hostel e incluso para mí sola. Creo que bendigo el día que aprendí a hacer mi comida preferida, porque ahora puedo hacerla en cualquier parte ❤️.
I have the lentil stew to thank for making me want to cook. I think I put so much effort into cooking this that I don't feel like cooking anything else (excuses). I guess everyone has their own version of cooking it, but I didn't have that much opportunity to try it made by other hands. However, that's not a problem for me, because I always take my recipe with me wherever I go. What about you, can you prepare your favourite food and what is it? 😃
Tengo que agradecer al guiso de lentejas que me da ganas de cocinar. Creo que todo mi esmero está puesto en cocinar esto que no me dan tantas ganas de cocinar otra cosa (excusas). Supongo que cada quien tiene su versión de prepararlo, pero no tuve tanta oportunidad de probarlo hecho por otras manos.
