I missed he whole Led Zeppelin thing growing up. Back in the 80's when I was a lot younger than I am now there was this whole thing about rock music and evil. I don't buy into this any more than stories of the Easter bunny or Santa Clause, but I do remember people talking about the song Stairway to Heaven and this thing called back masking. Google it! People actually believe in this, and not just your average nut cases, a lot of seemingly normal people too! Each to their own I guess, but this is possibly why I steered clear of Led Zeppelin. It may have also had something to do with Robert Plant's voice. Probably not the work of the devil, but can be a tad winey. Even if you did buy into the whole "satanic panic" thing you would have at least heard these riffs as I did.
When everyone was in the office I used to walk around the streets at lunch time with a work colleague who was a huge Zeppelin and Jimmy Page fan. We'd have many conversations trying to convince each other why Jimmy was a better guitarist than Stevie Ray Vaughan or the other way around. I had no idea how prolific and influential Jimmy was and how he played on so many different albums in the UK, also how he was a producer as well.
I always thought that Jimmy's guitar of choice was a Gibson ,but apparently a lot of his classic riffs were recorded on a Telecaster. However at the moment (until Tuesday) I have the Les Paul from the guitar library so here they are, possibly my 5 favourite Jimmy Page riffs.
Stay safe people!
