I posted recently about my Boss RC-1 looper pedal. It's a very neat gadget, but has some limitations if you only have the built-in switch to control it. That has to handle all the functions of start/stop/record/undo. Luckily it has the option to plug in some extra footswitches. The Boss brand dual footswitch can perform multiple duties, but it costs about £50. There are cheaper alternatives, but you would probably still be spending £20 and I like to make stuff if I can.
All you need are some momentary switches (normally closed). I bought a couple of these on ebay for £3 each. I already had a stereo socket and the cable. Metal project cases can be fairly expensive, but I also have some old tobacco tins. They are decades old and I was not the smoker. I inherited them amongst the stuff in my shed and they contained various screws and nails.
This involved a little soldering. My main issue with this is that my close-up vision with my glasses is not great. Maybe I need to go varifocal. I took them off and just had to get close to see.
I guess I could have had the lid on top to show the label, but I thought it would be easier to have all the parts attached to the main part of the tin. Those button toppers are by Mooer. They make it easier to hit the switches when you don't have shoes on at home and they also colour-code the switches.
I do need to stick something non-slip on the bottom as it slides around on my wood floor.
One of the switches did not seem to work at first, but was okay after I re-soldered it. My next little project is to re-wire the pedal board so that the looper is after my Zoom G3X instead of before. That requires some different cables and I need to see if I have all I need. I am not planning to gig with all this stuff, but I want it set up nicely at home so I actually use everything.
Rock on!
