Dentro de los roedores de forma general, hay algunos que son simpáticos, bonitos y agradables. Están los Hamsters o los Conejos, que a muchas personas les gusta criar y cuidar por diversas razones, pero no son ellos el tema de este post.
Ratones y ratas.
Estos si son personajes un poco desagradables, aunque verdaderamente no lo digo por como lucen, porque para ser honestos no son feos los sujetos. Lo que pasa es que crecí, al ser de un pueblo de campo en el que se sembraba mucho arroz, rodeado prácticamente de ratones y ratas. Alrededor de ellos también giraban diversas historias y cuentos. Algunos decían que los ratones iban de noche mientras dormias y te abrían un hueco en la planta del pie mientras te soplaban al morderte y no lo sentías, eso a mi me daba mucho miedo de pequeño. Ya de mayor las cosas cambiaron un poco al ganar en conocimiento sobre el tema, lo que si no cambió fue la repulsión que sentía por ellos. Mi familia sembraba arroz, así como mis vecinos. Por supuesto, el arroz lo almacenábamos en una habitación de la casa, nuestra casa era de madera y de noche se escuchaba las carreras de los ratones por conductos que había en el techo de un lado para otro, sobre todo después que mi papá trajo un gato para la casa. Aquellas fueron largas batallas, pero me daba la impresión de que el gato no podía con todos, yo incluso pensaba que venían de otros lugares porque los de mi casa les enviaban avisos de que había mucho arroz para todos, jajaja. De cualquier manera, usando gatos, usando venenos de varios tipo o usando ratoneras, fue una pelea difícil en la que nunca logramos exterminarlos totalmente hasta que se dejó de almacenar arroz en casa, porque además son animales de una resistencia asmirable, capaces de vivir en disimiles entornos y por si fuera poco, se meten por donde quiera, donde haya una pequeña abertura, por ahí se cuelan ellos.
Lo más peligroso y preocupante de la permanencia de estos animalitos en nuestras viviendas son las enfermedades que pueden transmitir, por ejemplo, la leptospirosis, la salmonela, la enfermedad de Weil o el hantavirus, estas solo son algunas. Yo tuve leptospirosis 2 veces y no me fue muy bien con ella, una de las ocasiones tuve que ingresar en el hospital una semana con antibióticos en vena e inyectables para poder salir del trance.

Hace unos días recibí una llamada de la mamá de mis hijos, ella vive en un apartamento en la quinta planta de un edificio, ya una vez cuando yo aun vivía con ellos, tuvimos un evento con un ratón que se coló allí y que nos dio bastante trabajo exterminar.
Pues nada, que me llamó diciéndome que necesitaba mi ayuda para recoger un reguero de trastos que tenía en una esquina del balcón, que habían visto 2 ratones grandes y que sospechaban que era allí donde tenían sus guaridas. Me dijo que estaba preocupada por los niños y que pudieran enfermarse, así que al otro día fui para su casa a efectuar la limpieza que sabía que terminaría en cacería.
En efecto, aquella esquina del balcón tenia de todo tipo de trasto, poco a poco y con cuidado fui sacando todo lo que allí había, mientras más sacaba,más fuerte era aquella peste a ratón o a excremento de ratón, ahora no estoy seguro de donde es que proviene exactamente. Los ratones son animales nocturnos básicamente, así que yo presumía que si aquella era su guarida, de seguro estarían allí ocultos a esa hora. Mientras más avanzaba la idea de que estuvieran allí más se debilitaba, ya quedaban pocos trastos por sacar y no aparecía nada, pero de pronto, salió una ratona o rata, no se bien, disparada por mi lado y se metió en un closet de la cocina, allí estaba acorralada si sacaba las cosas que había dentro, porque solo tenia una puerta de entrada, así fue, al sacarlo todo logre darle caza, al retornar al rincón del balcón, en la esquina había 9 crías pequeñas de la ya exterminada madre.

Esa parte del balcón esta dividida en dos por una pequeña placa de concreto sobre la cual esta el tanque de agua, detrás del que había tremendo reguero de cosas también, al terminar de limpiar abajo y ya creyendo que se habían terminado los ratones, pero intentando dejar ya todo limpio, me dispuse a limpiar aquella parte que era un poco más angosta y alta, para lo que tuve que subirme en el muro del balcón. De la misma manera que abajo, cuando solo faltaba un poco por sacar, desde una esquina, salió otra rata muy parecida a la anterior, esta también tenia crías, pero no corrió a la cocina, se metió justo donde antes había tenido su nido la otra, solo que ya aquel lugar estaba limpio y quedó expuesta, por lo que la pude cazar con rapidez, el mal olor que había en aquel lugar era impresionante, había restos de todo, huesos de pollo, restos de otros tipos de comida, madera roída, pequeños y abundantes pedazos de papel y de cartón, tierra...lo nunca visto en una quinta planta de un edificio.

¿ Como llegaron allí esas 2 familias de roedores? Está claro que solo deben haber llegado las madres y de seguro parieron allí, no se cual es el tiempo de gestación, pero de seguro deben haber estado allí bastante tiempo, a juzgar por el tamaño de los nidos y la cantidad de desechos que había. La segunda madre tenia 6 crías, mayores que las anteriores,a estos ya solo les faltaban días para poder andar por si solos y eso habría sido desastroso, si no se llega a hacer la limpieza a tiempo el apartamento se habría llenado de ratones, lo que hubiera sido muy peligroso para la salud de todos allí, especialmente la de mis hijos.
Nunca había visto algo así en un edificio, fue una tarde movida, pero al final se logró limpiar y exterminar las 2 familias de roedores, quizás suene mal, pero es que era necesario, tengo la certeza de que tendría que haber al menos un macho, pero ese no estaba, así que puse un porciones de veneno para ratones en ambos lugares, por si el macho existe y regresa, que no vaya a traer mas esposas para el rincón del balcón.

When I grew up, things changed a little as I gained more knowledge about the subject, but what didn't change was the repulsion I felt for them. My family grew rice, as did my neighbors. Of course, we stored the rice in a room of the house, our house was made of wood and at night you could hear the mice running through ducts in the ceiling from one side to the other, especially after my dad brought a cat for the house. Those were long battles, but I had the impression that the cat couldn't handle everyone, I even thought that they came from other places because those from my house sent them notices that there was a lot of rice for everyone, hahaha. In any case, using cats, using poisons of various types or using mousetraps, it was a difficult fight in which we never managed to completely exterminate them until we stopped storing rice at home, because they are also animals of admirable resistance, capable of living in dissimilar environments and if that were not enough, they get in wherever they want, wherever there is a small opening, that's where they sneak in.
The most dangerous and worrying thing about the permanence of these animals in our homes are the diseases that they can transmit, for example, leptospirosis, salmonella, Weil's disease or hantavirus, these are just a few. I had leptospirosis twice and I didn't do very well with it. One time I had to be admitted to the hospital for a week with intravenous antibiotics and injections to be able to get out of the trance.

In fact, that corner of the balcony had all kinds of junk, little by little and carefully I took out everything that was there, the more I took out, the stronger the stench of mouse or mouse excrement, now I'm not sure where. is that it comes exactly. Mice are basically nocturnal animals, so I presumed that if that was their den, they would surely be hiding there at that time. The more the idea that they were there progressed, the weaker it became, there were few things left to take out and nothing appeared, but suddenly, a mouse or rat, I don't know, ran past me and went into a closet in the room. kitchen, there I was cornered if I took out the things that were inside, because it only had one entrance door, that's how it was, when I took everything out I managed to hunt it down, when I returned to the corner of the balcony, in the corner there were 9 small offspring of the already exterminated mother

Thet part of the balcony is divided in two by a small concrete plate over which is the water tank, behind which there was a tremendous mess of things as well, when I finished cleaning beneath and already believing that the mice were gone, but trying to leave it all clean, I prepared to clean that part that was a little narrower and higher, for which I had to climb on the balcony wall. The same way that happened beneath, when there was only a little left to remove, from a corner, another rat that looked alike the first one came out, this one had some babies too, but it did not run to the kitchen, it went right into where the first rat previously had its nest. But that place was already clean and the rat was exposed, so I was able to hunt it quickly, the bad smell that was in that place was impressive, there were remains of everything, chicken bones, remains of other types of food, wood gnawed, small and abundant pieces of paper and cardboard, dirt... never seen before on the fifth floor of a building.
