geckos roam freely around our house and it is fascinating to watch how they are able to catch insects, they have no problem running across the ceiling. there are plenty of different insects to prey upon especially around the wall lamps. i am always surprised the insects don't seem to notice the gecko approaching. it just runs up and grabs them with it's mouth while the insect makes no attempt to escape.
this event took place on our bedroom ceiling. for some reason the gecko never tried to eat this moth. it certainly had a good long look at it. perhaps it recognized this one tastes terrible or maybe it was too big-
i don't know. i was very lucky to have time to get my camera and take the shot. the lighting was poor so i was twice lucky they both stood still long enough for the long exposure. the moth was in no hurry to escape but eventually it did fly away and the gecko didn't make any attempt to pursue it.
fortunately i have identified this beautiful moth as a dot-underwing eudocima materna. if anybody knows more about it i would love to hear it the greenish golden outer wings shone even in the dim light. i am happy it didn't get devoured that evening
