Forests, jungles, national and/or provincial parks and protected areas in general are a fundamental element for the planet's biodiversity.
Normally we are used to identify the fauna and flora of these natural environments with big or small animal species, of alive colors and other own characteristics.
When we venture into a natural area we expect to find felines, beautifully colored birds, mammals and birds characteristic of the area and everything we have been able to read or find on the Internet before venturing into an unknown world.
However, very few (or almost none) people enter a national park, for example, to see the insects. Firstly because they are difficult to see, secondly because they are generally found on the ground often protected by branches, fallen trunks and decomposing foliage and thirdly - and not least - because in our cultural heritage insects are seen as something ugly, unpleasant and sometimes even disgusting. With rare exceptions. Like bees for example.
However, they are a fundamental element in the conservation of the lower part of the forest or jungle.
Insects experts in camouflage, thousands and thousands of butterflies, powerful spiders, flowers of all colors, beetles that transport several times their own weight, all of them together with hundreds of birds, amphibians and reptiles look for their balance in the natural environment that surrounds them and of which they are part.
It is enough to walk calmly through the forest to find new forms of life at every step.
The insects are protected from the cold by the insulating material constituted by the mirror of decomposing foliage that falls from the trees. In this way, the insects can take refuge under this mattress of leaves - where an infinite amount of fungi also reproduce - or they take refuge in the deepest tunnels, dug under the ground or digging in the bark of the fallen trees whose wood begins to decompose.
As the climate becomes more tolerant they come out of their hiding places and sometimes even fight to take over a portion of territory. A classic example is the ants. Every spring there are real intraspecific battles between ants from different colonies for control of the territory.
One of the key processes and me major importance in the nature is the pollination that allows the plants to reproduce. Pollinators are mainly insects, especially bees and aerophones, but butterflies, moths, some beetles and other flying insects can also fulfill this mission.
Los bosques, selvas, parques nacionales y/o provinciales y áreas protegidas en general son un elemento fundamental para la biodiversidad del planeta.
Normalmente estamos habituados a identificar la fauna y flora de estos entornos naturales con grandes o pequeñas especies animales, de vivos colores y otras características propias.
Cuando nos aventuramos en un área natural esperamos encontrar felinos, aves de hermosos colores, mamíferos y pájaros característicos de la zona y todo lo que hayamos sido capaces de leer o encontrar en Internet antes de aventurarnos en un mundi desconocido.
Sin embargo son muy pocas (o casi ninguna) las personas que entran en un parque nacional, por ejemplo, para ver los insectos. Primero porque son difíciles de ver, segundo porque generalmente se encuentran en el suelo muchas veces protegidos por ramas, troncos caídos y follaje en descomposición y tercero -y no menos importante- porque en nuestro acerbo cultural los insectos son vistos como algo feo, desagrable y a veces hasta repugnante. Salvo raras excepciones. Como las abejas por ejemplo.
No obstante todo ello son un elemento fundamental en la conservación de la parte baja del bosque o la selva.
Insectos expertos en camouflage, miles y miles de mariposas, arañas poderosas, flores de todos los colores, escarabajos que transportan varias veces su propio peso, todos ellos junto a centenares de aves, anfibios y reptiles buscan su equilibrio en el entorno natural que los rodea y del cuál forman parte.
Es suficiente recorrer con calma el bosque para encontrar nuevas formas de vida a cada paso.
Los insectos son protegidos del frio por el material aislante constituído por el espejo follaje en descomposición que cae de los árboles, los insectos de esta manera puede refugiarse debajo de este colchón de hojas -donde se reproducen asimismo una infinita cantidad de hongos- o se refugian en los túneles más profundos, excavados bajo tierra o excavando en la corteza de los árboles caídos y cuya leña comienza a descomponerse.
A medida que el clima se hace más tolerante salen de sus escondrijos y a veces hasta combaten para adueñarse de una porción de territorio. Un ejemplo clásico son las hormigas. Cada primavera se producen verdaderas batallas intraespecíficas entre hormigas de distintas colonias por el control del territorio.
Uno de los procesos claves y me mayor importancia en la naturaleza es la polinización que permite a las plantas reproducirse. Los polinizadores son principalmente insectos, especialmente particular abejas y aerófonos, pero también pueden cumplir esta misión las mariposas, las polillas, algunos escarabajos y otros insectos voladores.
