The Washington Commanders are taking a chance on one of the riskiest quarterbacks in the NFL when they traded for former Eagle and Colt QB Carson Wentz. Wentz is simply one of the oddest, enigmatic quarterbacks in the NFL. Once upon a time he sorta kinda led a team to a Super Bowl Chmapionship. Indirectly of course. In 2017 Wentz had a pretty phenomenal, MVP caliber season, until he went down with an injury late that season. After he went down, the legend of Big Dick Nick Foles was born, and the rest is history. After that season Wentz has been super up and down, inconsistent.
Wentz had a lone decent season with the Colts last year, until he was shipped to his current team, the Commanders. Funny enough this season, he's not only back in his old division, the NFC East where he will face his former team in the Eagles TWICE. He also is facing the entire AFC South the division he played in last season where he will face his other former team in the Colts.
In addition, Wentz will get to face the very team that punched his ticket to Washington in the first place. In the final week of last season, all Wentz and the Colts had to do to make the playoffs was beat the lowly Jaguars, and well, they choked. Now in week one of this season Wentz will get to try and get revenge.
For the Commanders despite all the oddities and risk Wentz may bring, Wentz is probably the best QB the Commanders have had since the team had Kirk Cousins.
On the Jags side of things, they are now in a slightly better place than they were a season ago, thanks to the fact that the cancer that was Urban Meyer is now out of there. QB Trevor Lawrence gets to experience an actually decent head coach in Doug Pederson.
Jags first round draft pick from last season, running back Travis Etienne, is healthy and will actually see the field for the first time. Dude is quick and shifty. Not sure if his slight frame will last in the NFL but he will produce decently I believe.
2022 first overall pick for the Jags, defensive end Travon Walker looks like a savage out there so far from preseason.
This will be a good game between two lower caliber teams trying to surprise the NFL this season.
I like the Commanders in this one, I believe their defense is just way better with Chase Young and company. Commanders win 20-14.
