Yesterday's game was absolutely ELECTRIC, one of the most exciting and fun Phillies games I've seen in a long time!
The Phillies were down 3-0 for quite awhile. Ranger Suárez gave up an early three run home run but settled down nicely and actually got through seven innings without allowing another run. In the seventh inning the Phillies rallied to tie the game, then in the eighth the Tigers hit a solo homer to retake the lead. That really quieted the crowd for a time, especially after the Phillies worked so hard to tie the game. But in the eighth the boys rallied AGAIN and retook the lead. Stott, Castellanos, Turner, Schwarber and Kemp all contributed well at the plate during both of these comebacks.
Then in the top of the ninth, the Phillies new closer Jhoan Durán made his debut and dude, what an absolutely legendary entrance. I actually can't lie I had no clue he was known for this this type of entrance in Minnesota. He came out with the lights going nuts, a super energetic song, and THE SPIDER ANIMATION ON THE SCREEN WAS AMAZING!
ABSOLUTE GOOSEBUMPS!!!
Only four pitches later, Durán ended the game and sealed the victory for the Phillies. SO GOOD. I wish I was there, maybe I can take my son to a game with Durán closing.
Durán really could be the key addition to help the Phillies win this World Series. The season feels BRAND NEW. Even Harrison Bader contributed with a key walk and a run scored during the Phillies first comeback from being down 3-0. Schwarber drove him in to tie the game 3-3.
All in all BOTH new players IMMEDIATELY contributed and this just might be a wild ride the rest of the way. Also, the Phillies are back on top in the NL East by a half game!
Zack Wheeler is set to pitch in this second game versus the Tigers. The Phillies will be facing Tarik Skubal who is pretty excellent himself. Hopefully the boys can keep up this momentum.
The vibes are good in The City of Brotherly Love!
