Yesterday the Phillies got a nice 2-0 victory over the Tigers, sealing the series victory as well! Cristopher Sánchez snagged his tenth win of 2025 and continues to linger around in Cy Young conversations. It doesn't seem too likely he'll win it but he continues to get wins and hum along through the season. His consistency is what really keeps him around in these conversations. He's 10-3 with a 2.40 ERA with seemingly very strong momentum! Who knows, there's still two months in this season, anything is possible! Sánchez was pulled after eight innings of work. I was mildly skeptical about the Phillies pulling him out of the game, but I think it's mostly because I'm not used to the Phillies having a clear cut legit closer! Jhoan Durán came into the ninth with his iconic entrance and just threw straight GAS, hitting 103 MPH consecutively like it was nothing and sealing the win! I could be wrong but I feel as though the Phillies fan gave him some extra motivation as they were fired up to see him come in! It's incredible having him on this team, the Phillies feel dangerous now I'm telling ya! Kyle Schwarber hit another home run like it's simply a part of his routine at this point. It was his 38th!
Tonight the Phillies continue playing the American League as they face the Orioles who are pretty beatable. I have a lot of respect for the Orioles since they were my dad's favorite team. There's actually a picture of him holding me as a baby in an Orioles shirt. Perhaps I should have been an Orioles fan. I doubt my dad minds though up in Heaven, I still have respect for that squad! Would love to see an Orioles game in Baltimore someday, not too far from my area anyway!
But yes, the Phillies are up a half game in the NL East over the Mets. Somehow, the Marlins aren't insanely far back either, but I'm not too worried about them yet. Jesús Luzardo is on the mound seeking his tenth win. Hopefully he can get consecutive victories for the first time since May!
