Greetings dear #Hivemotors community, today I will share an experience with you that is somewhat tragic, but at the same time miraculous. For the third time this year I have to replace the gas pump in one of my cars.
Saludos estimada comunidad de #Hivemotors, hoy compartiré una experiencia con ustedes un tanto trágica, pero a su vez milagrosa. Por tercera vez en este año debo reemplazar la bomba de gasolina de uno de mis carros.
Due to the two previous experiences, I am constantly checking the pump, just by lifting the rear seat, and removing the metallic cover I quickly discover the pump. The first thing I do is turn the ignition key, to hear that it works and pumps fuel, then a little visual inspection.
Debido a las dos experiencias anteriores, constantemente estoy chequeando la bomba, con solo levantar el asiento trasero, y retirar la tapa metaliza descubro la bomba rápidamente. Lo primero que hago es pasar la llave del encendido, para escuchar que funciona y bombea combustible, luego una pequeña inspección visual.
After removing the connector that electrically feeds the pump, I noticed that one of the connections had a dark color underneath, similar to the color of burnt plastic, this immediately alarmed me and I proceeded to remove the complete pump from the gas tank to inspect it completely.
Luego de retirar el conector que alimenta eléctricamente la bomba, pude notar que una de las conexiones presentaba una coloración oscura debajo, parecido a el color de plástico quemado, esto me alarmo inmediatamente y procedí a retirar la bomba completa del tanque de la gasolina para inspeccionarla por completo.
By effectively disassembling the pump from the lower part of the upper cover, an overheating of the cables, caused the terminal that supplies electrically, when heated, to melt the plastic.
Al desarmar la bomba efectivamente por la parte inferior de la cubierta superior, un recalentamiento de los cables, provoco que el terminal que alimenta eléctricamente, al calentarse, fundiera el plástico.
It is clear that the main reason that this happened was due to the pump, however, I started to check the wiring and the power supply, with the help of my multimeter with oscilloscope, and I was able to verify that it was not due to a fault electrical.
Es claro que la principal razón de que esto ocurriera fue por producto de la bomba, sin embargo, me dispuse a revisar el cableado y la alimentación, con la ayuda de mi multímetro con osciloscopio, y pude constatar que no fue por motivo de una falla eléctrica.
As I have already commented in my two previous publications, the growing need for changes of gasoline pumps in the Venezuelan market has caused many brands to appear, and they are not exactly of good quality, especially the imitations, the most recognized brands are the ones abound, and those who are not prepared to recognize them can have severe complications.
Como ya he comentado en mis dos publicaciones anteriores, la creciente necesidad de cambios de bombas de gasolina en el mercado venezolano, a provocado que muchas marcas aparezcan, y no precisamente son de buena calidad, sobre todo las imitaciones las marcas más reconocidas son las que abundan, y quien no este preparado para reconocerlas, puede tener severas complicaciones.
But even having the ability to differentiate between an imitation and the original product, the fact of having to change this spare part every 2 or 4 months forces many to buy the cheapest ones, which implies severe risks.
Pero aun teniendo la capacidad de poder diferenciar entre una imitación y el producto original, el hecho de tener que cambiar cada dos a 4 meses este repuesto, obliga a muchos a comprar los mas económicos, lo que implica severos riesgos.
Risks and possible accidents like the one I just avoided, that is why it is important to carry out periodic checks of the gasoline pump, also knowing that the quality of Venezuelan fuel is of very poor quality.
Riesgos y posibles accidentes como el que acabo de evitarme, por eso es importante realizar chequeos periódicos de la bomba de gasolina, sabiendo también que la calidad del combustible venezolano es de muy mala calidad.
Being able to remove the molten plastic terminal was a bit complicated, but even more complicated was reshaping where the terminal is connected. The sensible thing is to replace the pump completely, but I do not have enough money yet to do it, so I set out to repair it as well as possible.
Poder retirar el terminal plástico fundido fue un poco complicado, pero mas complicado aun fue dar forma nuevamente donde se conecta el terminal. Lo mas sensato es reemplazar la bomba por completo, pero no dispongo el dinero suficiente aun para hacerlo, así que me dispuse a repararlo lo mejor posible.
This time I bought a better quality pump for about $ 15 USD, this pump comes with a kit, with a replacement terminal, which I use to replace the one that burned out. Restore the plastic parts of the pump base as best I can, making sure that all connections are as good as possible to avoid contact between them.
Esta vez compre una bomba de mejor calidad por unos 15$ USD, esta bomba trae un kit, con un terminal de repuesto, el cual utilice para reemplazar el que se fundió. Restaure las partes plásticas de la base de la bomba lo mejor que puede, asegurándome que todas las conexiones quedaran lo mejor posible para evitar contactos entre ellas.

In conclusion, I can say thanks to constant inspection and God's help, this time it was possible to avoid an accident that could be fatal, that is why my recommendation to all the members of this community who are in Venezuela and are exposed to the same problems, constantly checking your gas pumps.
