A couple of days ago, a negligent accident severely damaged my vehicle. The battery had died, so I swapped it with another one to start the car. Afterward, I intended to put the old battery back in to charge it and asked my son for help. But as I was taking out the battery and he was putting the old one in, the positive and negative cables accidentally touched. This immediately killed the car, leaving me stranded until someone came to tow us.
De un simple cambio de batería a una ECU destrozada
Hace par de dias ocurrio un accidente por negligencia que ha dañado el vehículo de forma casi irreparable, la bateria se descargo y la intercambie con otra para encenderlo, luego de hacerlo pretendía volver a colocar la vieja batería para que se cargara y pedí ayuda a mi hijo, pero cuando quitaba la batería y el colocaba la viaje por accidente hizo que los cables negativo y positivo se tocaran, eso apago el carro de inmediato y me dejo en la calle hasta que alguien vino a remolcarnos.
Right away, I feared the worst: that the ECU was damaged. However, the day after the accident, I scanned the car, and it showed a Crankshaft Position Sensor (CKP) fault. I thought I might have dodged a bullet if it was just that sensor. So, I took it out to test it, and its impedance reading was close to the manufacturer's spec of 1000 ohms. But then another mishap occurred during handling: when I tried to clean the connector, it completely cracked. This made me wonder if the scanner's fault might have been due to a poor connection.
De inmediato pensé lo peor, la ECU se daño, pero al dia siguiente del accidente, escaneo el carro y me da el error de fallo del sensor de posicion de cigueñal CKP. Pensé que si solo era ese sensor me había salvado de lo peor, así que lo saque para probarlo pero al medir la impedancia da el valor cercano a lo que indica el fabricante que son 1000 ohm. Pero con la manipulación ocurrió otro accidente, al querer limpiar el conector este se resquebrajó todo, lo que me hizo pensar que quizás el fallo que registraba el escáner es por problemas con la conexión.
Since I have another car at home that's been out of commission for a year and a half with a seized engine, I decided to take its CKP sensor, as it's the same type. This way, I could rule out the sensor as the reason the car wouldn't start, especially since it had spark and fuel. I managed to remove it with some difficulty because, unlike the other car, this sensor's connector was held by a metal bracket, forcing me to pry it off.
Como tengo el otro carro en casa que ya tiene año y medio dañado por motor trancado, decidí quitarle el sensor, ya que es el mismo, para así descartar que esta fuera la razón de la porque no encendia el carro, ya que tenia chispa y gasolina. Logre sacarlo con algo de dificultad porque a diferencia del otro carro, el conector del sensor está sujeto por una base metalica, asi que tuve que forzarla para poder sacarlo.

When I tested this sensor, it gave the same ohmic value, which tells me both sensors are good. Still, I had to install it because of the broken connector. After putting it in, I tried to start the vehicle, but nothing happened. This time, however, I noticed that when I cranked the engine, the scanner lost connection with the ECU. After a while, a new code appeared: P1651, indicating a communication error with the ECU. This confirmed my initial suspicion: the ECU was indeed damaged and needs repair or replacement. The cost is $200, and to make matters worse, this breakdown happened right when school enrollment fees are due. Looks like I'll be without a car for a long time.
Cuando pruebo este sensor da el mismo valor en ohmios, lo que me dice que ambos estan bueno, pero igual debo montarlo debido al conector roto. Lo hago y procedo a encender el vehículo pero no pasa, pero esta vez noto que al darle al encendido el escáner pierde la conexión con el ECU y luego de un rato dio un nuevo código el P1651, fallo en la comunicación con el ECU, dejando en claro lo que mi sospecha inicial era cierta, el ECU sufrió daño y hay que repararlo o cambiarlo por uno nuevo, su precio es de 200$, lo peor que esta avería llegó justo en el momento de los gastos de inscripción escolar, asi que estare sin carro por un largo tiempo.
