It turns out that the car that my wife usually uses began to have a supposed failure that she could not describe me well, she always told me that every time I wanted to accelerate quickly the car for a few moments did not respond immediately, so I set out to evaluate it.
Que tal amigos de los motores y las reparaciones, hoy les vengo a contar otra novedad que aun estoy padeciendo con uno de los vehículos en casa. Pues resulta que el carrito que suele utilizar mi esposa empezó a tener una supuesta falla que ella no sabia describirme del todo bien, siempre me decía que cada vez que quería acelerar rápidamente el carro por unos instantes no respondía de inmediato, así que me dispuse a evaluarlo.
When I drove it willing to see what happens, when I made the gear shift and accelerate smoothly I could not perceive what she described, so I accelerated suddenly and felt that the engine did accelerate, but the car did not move forward until a second or two passed and it did, I immediately knew it was the clutch.
I was stunned because since that car was purchased in 2019, only 41 thousand kilometers have been rolled, and the previous owner had made the change of the clutch kit for a new and original one. I immediately thought that I had been deceived, I called the previous owner to assure me that he had really changed it, because it could not be that in only 40 thousand kilometers it already had wear, his answer was the same assuring me that he had done it.
Then why the wear so fast? For these cars it is recommended to change this kit between 200,000 and 250,000 kilometers depending on the driving style of the person who owns it. The previous hard did the change at 200 thousand, so I felt calm knowing that there were still many kilometers to go for another change.
I sat in the passenger seat while my wife was driving, this time I watched carefully how she was driving, and I noticed that, even making the gear change, she kept her foot on the clutch pedal, at that moment I asked her why she did it, and she told me that it was very high, and it ended up hurting her leg a lot after a while, having to lift it so many times so high, at that moment I knew why it had worn out so fast.
Cuando lo conduje dispuesto a ver que ocurre, al hacer el cambio de velocidad y acelerar suavemente no podía percibir lo que ella me describió, así que aceleré de manera repentina y se sintió que el motor si se aceleraba, pero que el carro no avanzaba hasta que pasaban un segundo o dos y lo hacía, de inmediato supe que se trataba del clutch.
Quede atónito porque desde que se compro ese carro en el 2019, solo se han rodado 41 mil kilómetros, y el anterior dueño había hecho el cambio del kit de clutch por uno nuevo y original. De inmediato pensé que me habían engañado, llame al anterior dueño para que me asegurara que realmente lo había cambiado, porque no podía ser que en solo 40 mil kilómetros ya tuviera desgaste, su repuesta fue la misma asegurándome que si lo había hecho.
¿Entonces porque el desgaste tan rápido? Para estos carros se recomienda hacer el cambio de este kit entre los 200 mil y los 250 mil kilómetros dependiendo del estilo de conducción del personaje que lo posee. El anterior duro hizo el cambio a los 200 mil, por lo cual me sentía tranquilo sabiendo que aun faltaban muchos kilómetros para otro cambio.
Me senté de copiloto mientras mi esposa manejaba, esta vez observe detenidamente como conducía, y note que, aun haciendo el cambio de la velocidad, mantenía el pie en el pedal del embrague, en ese momento le pregunte porque lo hacía, y me dijo que estaba muy alto, y le terminaba doliendo mucho la pierna luego de un rato, al tener que levantarla tantas veces tan alto, en ese momento supe porque se había desgastado tan rápido.

She confirmed that many times there was a burning smell after driving for long periods of time, which confirmed my suspicions.
Resulta que el pedal si estaba alto y aplicaba el clutch muy arriba, así que aun colocando suavemente el pie y presionándolo medianamente, se activaba un poco el embrague, y al girar el motor había desgaste. Ella me confirmo que muchas veces sitio olor a quemado luego de conducir por espacios largos de tiempo, lo que terminaba de confirmar mis sospechas.
What are the signs that help identify clutch failure?
From experience I learned that there are signs that indicate that the clutch disc or clutch is having wear, one of the first are the slight vibrations in the clutch pedal, especially when you remove it. In my case when I tested it, I felt the vibrations when I put it in reverse, but in the other speeds it is almost imperceptible.
The sign that for me has always been the reason to change the clutch kit, is when changing gear and accelerate, for seconds the car does not respond to acceleration, it is as if the box slips, but a few seconds later there is response and accelerates. This is due to the fact that the paste plate or clutch disc has a lot of wear, and the pressure disc also suffers crystallization.
The most drastic reasons that indicate that the clutch kit should be replaced is that the clutch pedal applies to the bottom, which is a sign of extreme wear of the pulp plate, which soon ceases to engage the pressure plate and as a result the car does not move forward, no matter what speed we put it in. This has never happened to me, I have always made the change with the first signs.
Por experiencia aprendí que hay señales que indican que el disco del clutch o embrague está teniendo desgaste, una de las primeras son las ligueras vibraciones en el pedal del embrague, especialmente cuando lo retiras. En mi caso cuando lo probé se siente las vibraciones al colocar el retroceso, pero en las demás velocidades es casi imperceptible.
La señal que para mí siempre ha sido la razón de realizar el cambio del kit de embrague, es al cambiar la velocidad y acelerar, por segundos el carro no responde a la aceleración, es como si la caja deslizara, pero a los pocos segundos hay respuesta y acelera. Esto se debe a que el plato de pasta o disco de clutch tiene mucho desgaste, y el disco de presión también sufre cristalización.
Las razones más drásticas que indican que se debe reemplazar el kit de clutch es que el pedal de embrague aplica en el fondo, lo que es señal de un desgaste extremo del plato de pasta, que no tarda en dejar de acoplarse al disco de presión y como consecuencia el carro no avanza, sin importar que velocidad coloquemos. Nunca me ha ocurrido esto, siempre he realizado el cambio con las primeras señales.
A small solution for a greater good
Now that the damage has been done, all that remains is to prepare myself to make this repair, which is costly and complex. However, I must continue to use the vehicle with great care so that it will last longer and prolong the wear and tear, since I do not have the resources immediately, due to my family's recent medical needs.
Ya con el daño hecho, lo que me resta es prepararme para realizar esta reparación que es costosa y compleja, sin embargo, debo continuar utilizando el vehículo con sumo cuidado para que soporte por mas tiempo y prolongar el desgaste, ya que no poseo los recursos de inmediato, debido a las necesidades medicas recientes de mi familia.

Es por eso que me dispuse primero a ajustar el pedal del embrague para que la conducción se haga mas sencilla para mi esposa, además de asegurarme que todo aquel que utilice el carro, no maneje con el pie puesto sobre el pedal del embrague constantemente, así que tome una pequeña llave de 10mm para ir debajo del carro y hacer el ajuste.
As you can see the pedal was well above the brake and accelerator pedals, so I took the key and almost through the front of the car, underneath I could access the end of the clutch pedal that operates the clutch in the gearbox.
Como se puede apreciar el pedal estaba muy por encima de los del freno y del acelerador, así que tome la llave y casi por la parte frontal del carro, debajo puedo acceder al extremo de la guaya del pedal que acciona el clutch en la caja de cambios.

Although the position is a little uncomfortable, just a few turns are enough to adjust the position of the pedal and shorten the travel it must make to operate the clutch. As shown in the following image, I managed to position the pedal at the same level of the accelerator, shortening its travel.

This should make driving easier for my wife, and lengthen the clutch wear a little. It is obvious that this failure was a negligence on my part, and I must pay a hard consequence, but for the moment I must keep it this way while I finish the repair of the Arauca that I have pending the change of the valve cover gasket to correct the oil leakage, and in this way to be able to stop the X1 for this major repair.
I hope that this small experience can be useful for some of you, to be attentive to the signs that indicate the need for a clutch kit change, and that in time it is possible to diagnose and prepare the expenses in advance, although not in all countries it is difficult to make this change, even paying others to do the service, in my case if it is expensive, because between labor and parts I have to spend more than $ 200 USD.
Esto debe facilitar la conducción para mi esposa, y alargar un poco el desgaste del clutch. Es obvio que esta avería fue una negligencia de mi parte, y debo pagar una dura consecuencia, pero de momentos debo mantenerlo de esta manera mientras termino la reparación del Arauca que tengo pendiente el cambio de la empacadura de la tapa válvulas para corregir el derrame de aceite, y de esta forma poder detener el X1 para esta reparación mayor.
Espero que esta pequeña experiencia pueda servir para alguno de ustedes, para estar atentos a las señales que indican la necesidad de un cambio de kit de embrague, y que a tiempo les sea posible diagnosticar y preparar los gastos con anticipación, aunque no en todos los países es difícil hacer este cambio, incluso pagar a otros para que hagan el servicio, en mi caso si es costoso, porque entre mano de obra y repuestos debo gastar más de 200$ USD.
