I start the year sharing with you a maintenance I did to my 2006 aveo with the purpose of preparing it to travel this end of the year and that, due to the deficiencies that lately is presenting the gasoline, should be done at most every three months.

Comienzo el año compartiéndoles un mantenimiento que le hice a mi aveo 2006 con el propósito de prepararlo para viajar este fin de año y que, debido a las deficiencias que últimamente está presentando la gasolina, debe realizarse a lo sumo cada tres meses.

A few days ago I was having trouble starting my car in the mornings. The only way to get it to start was to step on the accelerator and wait a while for the spark plug to spark to generate the starting explosion. I took out the spark plugs and one by one I was cleaning them to improve the spark and if it improved but the next day it was the same story.

Until the mechanic recommended me to clean the injectors, check the spark plugs and change the fuel filters.

So I did, I took it to a shop specialized in cleaning injectors and there they proceeded to remove the flute that supports the four injectors, then they took them to a device to immerse them in a kind of acid to clean them inside and out.

Días atrás le estaba sintiendo a mi carro un problema para encender en las mañanas. La única forma de que encendiera era pisando el acelerador a fondo y esperar un rato a que hiciera chispa la bujía para generar la explosión de arranque. Yo le sacaba las bujías y una por una las iba limpiando para mejorar la chispa y si mejoraba pero al siguiente día era el mismo cuento.
Hasta que el mecánico me recomendó hacerle una limpieza a los inyectores, chequeo de bujías y cambiar los filtros de la gasolina.
Así lo hice, lo llevé a un taller especializado en limpieza de inyectores y allí procedieron a sacar la flauta que soporta los cuatro inyectores, luego los llevaron a un aparato para sumergirlos en una especie de ácido a fin de limpiarlos por dentro y por fuera.

After cleaning them, they proceed to verify their operation, using a device provided with four cylinders, one for each injector, which are filled with liquid and allow to determine if any of the injectors is working poorly. All four cylinders must be filled to the same level at the same time. If this does not happen and one or more cylinders do not fill to the same level, it is an indication that the injector must be replaced.

This device tests the injectors by simulating different vehicle speeds to ensure proper operation. The technician performs this test several times for safety.

Luego de limpiarlos proceden a verificar su funcionamiento, utilizando para ellos un aparato provisto de cuatro cilindros, uno para cada inyector, que se llenan de líquido y permite determinar si alguno de los inyectores está funcionando en forma deficiente. Los cuatro cilindros deben llenarse al mismo nivel al mismo tiempo, si esto no sucede y uno o varios cilindros no se llena al mismo nivel, es indicativo que el inyector debe ser reemplazado.
Este aparato prueba los inyectores simulando las diferentes velocidades del vehículo a fin de garantizar su buen funcionamiento. El técnico le hace esta prueba varias veces para mayor seguridad.

Once subjected to this test, they are removed from the apparatus and a small rubber called horrin, which has the function of maintaining the hydraulic seal of the part, is changed. Finally, the injectors are installed in the flute.

Una vez sometido a esta prueba, se sacan del aparato y se procede a cambiarle una pequeña goma llamada horrin, que tiene como función mantener el sello hidráulico de la pieza. Finalmente se instalan los inyectores en la flauta.

Another maintenance they did was on the spark plugs. They took them out, cleaned them with a coarse bristle brush and then placed them in a fixture to test them. As the current passes through, you can see how it sparks. Logically, if it does not spark, the spark plug is defective and must be replaced.

Otro mantenimiento que le hicieron fue a las bujías. Las sacaron, las limpiaron con un cepillo de cerdas gruesas y luego las colocaron en un aparato para probarlas. Al pasar la corriente, se ve como se enciende la chispa. Lógicamente si no hace chispa, la bujía está defectuosa y debe ser reemplazada.

They also changed the fuel filter that goes on the bottom of the car and a small filter that goes on the bottom of the fuel pump. The way to replace this last one will be detailed in future publications.

If these filters are not changed, the injectors become dirty again with the contaminated gasoline and the cleaning job is lost. It is something like taking a bath and not changing your underwear.

También le cambiaron el filtro de gasolina que va en la parte inferior del carro y un pequeño filtro que va en la parte inferior de la bomba de gasolina. La forma de reemplazar este último se la detallaré en próximas publicaciones.
Si no se le cambia estos filtros, los inyectores se vuelven a ensuciar con la gasolina contaminada y se pierde el trabajo de limpieza. Es algo así como bañarse y no cambiarse la ropa interior.

To finalize the maintenance, I went to change the oil and oil filter, considering that the oil was already quite dark and ready for the road.

Para finalizar el mantenimiento, fui a cambiarle el aceite y filtro de aceite, considerando que ya el aceite estaba bastante oscuro y dejarlo listo para la carretera.

The next day in the morning the car started the first time without the need of sinking the accelerator.

So far my experience with this maintenance, I consider that I learned things I did not know about the injectors and that this maintenance must be done periodically due to the contamination of the gasoline.
