Well Hello There Fellow Technicians And Hivers
After a few dull days at work doing mostly transmission fitting jobs which are getting boring we finally got something that is at-least somewhat interesting, repairing a megatronic.
Well there won't be much repairing to do it actually just needs a new computer board. Which somehwat baffles me. 😂 Since this car was originally taken to Volkswagen for repairs and the board did work before they repaired it, so if the board had a problem they should have picked it up right? So what they did was replace the usual casing on the inside of the megatronic, the one that usually bursts because of too much pressure, I mean in time everything fails.
Still makes me wonder how they didn't pick up that the computer board was fried, or perhaps they fried it after fitment. Who knows.
Even though we only need to do a computer replacement on this megatronic I will still be pulling this whole thing apart, I actually want to see how the dealers do these things. 😅
But besides that it is full of dirt and grime and if I start to remove the computer there will absolutely and most definitely be sand and grime ending up inside the megatronic. Even though I work carefully it is possible not for any dirt to reach the inside, but this would not sit right with me, I'd be bothered till the end of days!
So here we go!
So this shows me that the megatronic was infact rebuilt and filled with new and fresh oil. It's as clean as it will ever be!
So let's see what she looks like inside!
For those wondering what exactly is the computer board on this one, well it's the whole facing that is pointing towards the camera, it is held in place with seven T25 Torque bits. It also seperate the two oils from mixing with a few rubber seals.
The computer is obviously responsible for shifting the gears inside the transmission, it has a whole bunch of other functions that I won't be getting in today but lets just say that without it you are righteously screwed!
I was almost certain that the technician at Volkswagen did physical damage to the megatronic, I don't say this to resort to any stereotyping of any sorts it's just that we've been through it a few times where they sent us transmissions where they don't know what the problem was, but most of the times the technician just kept quiet about something he broke!
Needless to say I didn't see any physical damage to the board at all, so it must have just given in, it also could not have been a power surge because the fuses are still okay.
Taking a peek on the inside it is pretty clear that they did infact do a rebuild. It's somewhat weird why don't put in the upgraded parts that is widely available. Perhaps because it eliminates the chance of breaking again and that means it would most likely not comeback for the same problem after a few years!
I did notice that they mark their bolts inside the megatronic, I am guessing that they do this in order to get the right torque settings on the casing. Well either that or they want to be able to see if anyone has tampered with it at all.
One or the other but if it means to be for any tampering, what stops me from cleaning the tipex marks and adding new ones. 🤣
I think I'll be doing just that!
What bothers me is the metal shavings inside the megatronic. Since it was rebuilt it's not supposed to have anything other than oil and the components inside. Hell I can't even begin to think where these would even come from, what I do know is that it's most definitely through out the whole megatronic because it's in most of the veins by the looks of it. Luckily it has a small filter inside but this means we would need to add even more to this already expensive repair and it's a double knock on the client because he already took it in for repairs.
Whelp I suppose it is what it is right!
Well she's all tore down and ready to be assessed, after the assessment I will be able to give it a proper cleaning and slam her closed. Luckily the building process doesn't take up too much time it's more about the assessment, the insurance and I hope for this client's sake that they are willing to pay out otherwise this would be a very hard knock for the client!
Let's see how things will unfold.
