Welcome to my entry for the
RAGNAROK
Logo Design Contest
For this #ragnaroklogo contest i'm presenting one design consisting of the name and a
signet in two color variations. One
golden design to match the already revealed
Ragnarok game art and a second duo tone design in a more
"cold'n bloody" color combo.
RAGNAROK LOGO • Gold
After reading a little bit about the game in the game design document i decided to not go for mixing up a lot of different mythology elements nor just choose one of them as the overall theme. I started by searching for a relatively basic, heavy font to play with and let my intuition fly with it to come up with something new and unique rather than just using one of the many typical genre matching fonts. For the decoration of the otherwise too naked looking letters i went for some celtic and animal ornaments.
I somehow knew from the start that i had to do something special with the O in RAGNAROK and pretty soon i had the idea that the O should double as the stand alone signet of the logo. Then i thought about weapons or other matching elements to accompany the just too simple circular O and while researching the topic i saw so many lightning bolts that it soon hit me like a, yes, like a FLASH. I'm gonna make a stylized flash that looks like some kind of weapon, that's it!
I guess i don't need to write a lot about those chess patterns, they're pretty self explanatory when you think about the planned game play, right?!
RAGNAROK LOGO • Cold'n Bloody
Instead i'd like to tell you a little something about the "number magic" of the signet and the "flash". That flash doesn't only double as a weapon. The two spikes of the flash represent the two players that have to battle against each other on the chess battlefield and there are five of those spikes forming the symbol in the circle that represent the five back pieces: King, Queen, Bishop, Knight, and Rook. If you look closely at the bigger pictures of the signet later on in the post you can see the same symbol a second time as a rotated shadowy version that represent the five pawns.
RAGNAROK GAME CARDS
The next two pictures show how both color variations of the design fit on the cards of the game that have been revealed so far. The cards you see here are courtesy of @ragnarok.game of course. I edited them just a little bit to fit the design in, i hope you don't mind.
SIGNET
As you surely noticed i used the signet with the flash as a separator in this post already to show one use of it and now here are the two variations without the flash for the use as profile pictures for example.
The spikes of the flash are forming the symbol that represents the five back pieces: King, Queen, Bishop, Knight, and Rook. If you look closely you can see the same symbol a second time as a rotated shadowy version that represent the five pawns.
BACKGROUNDS
Last but not least i'd like to show you a sheet with everything on black, white and neutral backgrounds so whatever mode your system, browser or hive frontend maybe in you can get a feel on how the design looks like on different backgrounds.
Ok, now that's it from me and my take on the RAGNAROK GAME Logo. I've seen some really nice entries to the contest so far already and wish all of us the best of luck on the RAGNAROK Contest Battlefield of the Gods.
