This is my work for the Pixelart contest. In this week it touched the theme of city and I wanted to give a little twist to the definition, because many times, when we talk about city the first thing we think about is the big modern cities, full of skyscrapers and crystals... but not all cities have to have skyscrapers, today I bring an interpretation of Colonial City from my country, the beautiful Dominican Republic.
This city or ¨Colonial zone¨ as we call it, is a city that has a great importance in our history, since it was the first city built by the Spanish when ¨colonized¨ (they found) the island. This colonial city was presented the pattern that became the model for almost all city planners in the New World. The city consists of the first cathedral, the first hospital, the first fortress and the first university on the island.
Este es mi trabajo para el concurso de Pixelart. En esta semana tocó el tema de ciudad y le quise dar un pequeño giro a la definición, porque muchas veces, cuando hablamos de ciudad lo primero que pensamos es en las grandes ciudades modernas, llenas de rascacielos y cristales... pero no todas las ciudades tienen que tener rascacielos, el día de hoy traigo una interpretación de La Ciudad Colonial de mi país, la hermosa República Dominicana.
Esta ciudad o ¨Zona Colonial¨ como le decimos, es una ciudad que tienen una importancia grandísima en nuestra historia, ya que fue la primera ciudad construida por los Españoles cuando ¨colonizaron¨ (encontraron) la isla. Esta ciudad colonial fue presentado el patrón que se convirtió en el modelo para casi todos los planificadores de la ciudad en el Nuevo Mundo. La ciudad consta con la primera catedral, el primer hospital, la primera fortaleza y la primera universidad de la isla.
Unfortunately I could not take the picture myself because of the pandemic, but I found this one on the internet that caught my attention.
As we can see it is a city full of color, full of colonial architecture, normally the buildings do not go beyond two levels, there are many parks, it is near the sea.
Before explaining the process, I feel I must apologize to my friends @librepensadora and @ykroys because both of them made some magnificent and super complete posts about how to prepare the files when creating a Pixelart . and here comes my apology... I'M SORRY! I failed you... I didn't used the programs, the laziness took hold of me because I saw a publication where they presented this page online Piskel, where I made it super easy and fast, Photoshop and Illustrator is for professionals like you! I'm just an amateur.
Lamentablemente no pude tomar la fotografía yo misma por motivos de la pandemia, pero encontré esta en internet que me llamó mucho la atención.
Como podemos ver es una ciudad llena de color, llena de arquitectura colonial, normalmente los edificios no pasan de dos niveles, hay muchos parques, esta cerca del mar.
Antes de explicarles el proceso, siento que debo disculparme con mis amigas @librepensadora y @ykroys porque las dos hicieron unos post magníficos y super completos sobre cómo preparar los archivos al momento de crear un Pixelart... y aquí viene mi disculpa... ¡LO SIENTO! Les fallé... no utilicé los programas, la vagancia se apoderó de mi porque ví una publicación en donde presentaban esta página online Piskel, en donde la hice super fácil y rápido, Photoshop e Illustrator es para profesionales como ustedes! Yo soy solo una aficionada.
Well, without further ado... I think nothing explains the process better than a video, so I left this GIF (which by the way also does Piskel.
The first thing I did was the background, creating a blue sky, with a few layers of clouds in front, then I made the perspective outline, to have it as a guide... I filled in the street, drew the tree in the background and gave color and detail to the buildings.
There are many details of the main image that I did not take into account because, I understand that they are not very necessary for my composition.
Bueno, sin mas preámbulo... creo que nada explica mejor el proceso que un video, así que dejé este GIF (que por cierto también lo hace Piskel.
Lo primero que hice fue el fondo, creando un cielo azul, con unas cuantas capas de nubes adelante, Luego hice el contorno de la perspectiva, para tenerlo como guía... Rellené la calle, dibuje el árbol del fondo y le dí color y detalles a los edificios.
Hay muchos detalles de la imagen principal que no tomé en cuenta debido a que, entiendo que no son muy necesarios para mi composición.
