Thanks to @qurator; this is a whole new level of food photography contest; not just a wonderful food post but with a specific ingredient and recipe as well! To find out more about this contest, check out HIVE TOP CHEF!
This week's Hive Top Chef Ingredient is BEANS.
And I have the perfect dish for it!
In an immediate moment, the story of Jack & The Beanstalk & Princess and The Pea comes to mind when I saw that this week's secret ingredient is Beans. 🤔 Sadly, it isn't about the story but the sharing of cooking beans. I don't really use beans in my cooking as my knowledge of how to cook beans is pretty limited. Having said that, I do cook Beansprouts as this is a very Asian vegetable that many of us enjoy. Especially in Vietnam, where it is served in almost every dish and absolutely affordable to the lower income earners.
What I have here is a simple home cook dish which is healthy and easy to prepare even if you've had a long day at work. Though beansprouts is the main ingredient in this dish, I would add other ingredients as well to give it bit of color & taste since beansprouts alone is tasteless and somewhat non-nutritious.
Here, I have soybean cut into small sizes, prawns - shells removed, slices of pork meat, garlic for frying and some green vegetables which I have no idea what it's called - all I know is that whenever we cook beansprouts, we would add small stalks of this vegetable - also non nutritious but gives the dish some color.
Once you have all these prepared, next is to lightly wash the beansprouts over water. I tend to soak it a bit in salt water so that any dirty sentiments can be removed. I've also added some red and green spinach since beansprouts alone can be pretty lonely.
A bundle like this would cost me about VND5,000 = USD0.21 = MYR0.89
Cooking this dish is easy. Stir fry the garlic with oil. Add in the meat & prawns, followed by the beancurd. Lastly, add in the vegetables. Season with a dash of salt and pepper. If you like it spicy, you can add 1 whole chilli.
Step #1
Step #2
Step #3
And here is the final dish, absolutely healthy, easy to cook and doesn't hurt our weight a bit. I'm on a keep fit diet so dishes like this is my best way to keep the weight down.
Hope you enjoy my simple home cooking of beansprouts. May not be a MasterChef category but who cares... I ain't in a competition to be one anyway!
