Today, I want to share a project that fills me with pride. It's a piece I'm genuinely happy with—so much so that it exceeded even my own expectations. I also want to share some insights into the creative process behind it. While it was a bit messy at times, it taught me a lot and helped me grow as an artist.
My friend Israel Valdez, who runs his personal business Owl, specializing in elegant and unique casual t-shirts (I already own several that I wear to parties!), came to me with an interesting idea: he wanted to feature our country's coat of arms on one of his commemorative t-shirts.

Hoy quiero compartirles un proyecto que me llena de orgullo. Es un trabajo que, sinceramente, me gusta mucho, tanto que incluso superó mis propias expectativas. Además, quiero mostrarles un poco del proceso detrás de esta creación. Aunque fue algo desordenado, me enseñó mucho y me ayudó a avanzar como artista.
Mi amigo Israel Valdez, dueño de su empresa Owl, que se especializa en confeccionar poleras casuales elegantes y únicas (¡de hecho, ya tengo varias que uso para fiestas!), me propuso una idea muy interesante: quería plasmar el escudo de nuestro país en una de sus poleras conmemorativas.
At first, I have to admit, I was hesitant. When I pictured the coat of arms in my mind, it didn’t seem very aesthetic. I even considered turning down the project. But Israel encouraged me, assuring me that with my style and artistic approach, I could create something truly special. His confidence in me was enough to convince me, so I decided to take on the challenge.
The beginning wasn’t easy. I had a lot of doubts, which showed in my strokes and compositional choices. But little by little, with patience and dedication, everything started coming together. I noticed the inner landscape of the coat of arms was quite flat and dull, so I decided to bring it to life with more vibrant colors and shapes. That decision really boosted my motivation throughout the process.
Al principio, debo admitir que la idea me generó dudas. Cuando imaginé el escudo en mi mente, no lo vi muy estético. Incluso consideré rechazar el proyecto. Sin embargo, Israel me animó, asegurándome que con mi estilo y arte podría lograr algo especial. Su confianza en mí fue suficiente para convencerme, así que decidí aceptar el reto.
El inicio del trabajo no fue sencillo. Tenía muchas dudas, y eso se reflejaba en mis trazos y en las decisiones compositivas. Pero poco a poco, con paciencia y dedicación, todo empezó a tomar forma. Noté que el paisaje del interior del escudo era bastante plano y algo monótono, así que decidí darle vida con colores y formas más vibrantes. Esto marcó un antes y un después en mi motivación durante el proceso.
However, there were some challenging parts, like the text and the stars inside the coat of arms. I procrastinated on that part quite a bit because I couldn’t get it to look right. Eventually, I pushed myself to finish it, digitizing those elements carefully to ensure they blended harmoniously.
Israel also requested a small adjustment: to change the direction of the Andean condor and add the laurels surrounding the coat of arms. Once that was done, there was just one final detail left. Since Israel loves a splatter-style effect, he asked me to add some random paint splashes. I gave it my best shot, and in the end, we were both thrilled with the result!
Sin embargo, hubo partes que realmente me desafiaron, como el texto y las estrellas en el interior del escudo. Procrastiné bastante esa etapa porque no lograba que quedaran bien. Finalmente, me decidí a terminarla, digitalizando esos elementos con mucho cuidado para que se integraran de forma armoniosa.
Israel también me pidió un pequeño ajuste: cambiar la dirección del cóndor andino y añadir los laureles que rodean el escudo. Una vez hecho eso, solo quedaba un detalle más. Como a Israel le encanta el estilo con manchas, me pidió añadir algunas de forma aleatoria. Hice mi mejor esfuerzo, ¡y el resultado final nos dejó a ambos muy contentos!
Here’s the finished work, along with a picture of me looking very sleepy after a few sleepless nights. Despite the exhaustion, I’m extremely satisfied with how this project turned out.
