What a challenging task we were set this week by @qurator; and that was to Create a meal in under 20 minutes!
Did I succeed?
I'll be totally honest, I could have done this if there were no disturbances, but I went 5 minutes over the deadline so if there were any moderators around, they would have failed me!
But...if I subtracted the time I was disturbed from prepping and cooking, 20 minutes would have sufficed to cook Sausage, creamy Mash and a sweet & sour Mushroom & Onion Gravy, served with mixed veggies.
Can you see how fast I was working?
Wishful thinking not so :)
Back to Hive Top Chef...
A load of stuff was taking place simultaneously:
Kettle filled to the brim with water and boiled for cooking the potatoes.
6 soft-cooker potatoes peeled & diced into small cubes and boiled in salted boiling water till soft.
While potatoes were boiling, 9 frozen Pork Sausages were browned in a little oil.
At the same time in another pot, 2 diced Onions & 1 punnet diced Mushrooms were sauteed in a little oil.
A couple of squirts of sweet Chili Sauce & salt added.
Mushroom gravy was added to pan of sausages, and left on low heat while the kitchen became all steamy and hot, lovely in winter!...
Potatoes were drained, mashed till creamy with the help of 2 generous blobs of butter and full cream milk.
In between all of this, frozen mixed Veg were cooked in microwave with a generous blob of butter.
It was a cold evening so I closed all doors and windows; every window ended up being misted up from all the steaming pots and our one guest came knocking on the door as he passed the kitchen asking if everything was ok.
That took up at least 5 minutes as I politely had to ask how his day went...while the clock was ticking past my allotted 20 minutes!!!
Sausage, creamy Mash with a sweet & sour Mushroom & Onion gravy served with mixed vegetables went down well with the hungry men in my household!
So...although this is not a valid entry, I am nevertheless sharing it here with you as it was very good and could actually have been done in 20 minutes without disturbances of any kind!
