Yesterday evening I received a notification (i.e. mention) from Peak Genie because I subscribed to the "user testing" category in that app. It was a wish created by the Peak Open team to take a look and test their Peak Vault browser extension, which is (will be) an alternative to Hive Keychain. This is their wish if you want to take a look yourself.
So today, I did check out the Peak Vault extension for the first time. For the time being, there is only an extension for Firefox, with the Chrome one on its way, but that's fine with me since I use Firefox a lot.
I used a small test account I have, so I couldn't thoroughly engage with all the features of the extension because I didn't have all types of assets to play with.
Ok, this is going to sound like a bunch of things that are wrong or that can be improved, but that's what testing is about, in my opinion. Not to tell you what great things are. I focused more on the testing part and less on reviewing for others, but the main features that you'd expect are there. There is still work to be done on it, though.
I installed the extension twice. First time, I installed it, added the account, and started checking different features. At some point, I wanted to test the lock feature, which I did. Unfortunately, it seemed like my password (which was very simple) was... wrong. I tried disabling the extension and enabling it, but to no success. In the end, I reinstalled it and haven't had issues locking and unlocking it since. I have to assume this was my fault somewhere, the first time.
This is how the extension's main screen looks like, after you log in:
I couldn't test any of the NFT features, since I didn't have any on my test account, but it's great to find 3 games there, Splinterlands, RotP, and TerraCore. That's something Hive Keychain doesn't have, for example.
One big thing I noticed:
Couldn't Log into PeakD with Peak Vault
The screenshots will probably speak better:
Here's also the whitelisted ops for PeakD:
Whatever happened, that's all this error message said. Peak Vault displayed "success" into the extension window.
A List of Smaller Issues I Noticed
A few of these issues may simply be work in progress that hasn't been added yet, so they will be in the category of new features at a later time.
There we go:
- Takes too long to update the H-E balance of a token after a transfer; the user may think the transaction didn't go through and send again
- You can't stop an unstaking process in Hive-Engine from Peak Vault
- You can't remove a contact once added
- Web view menu option doesn't seem to work (maybe nothing there yet?)
- on the Hive staking page, the insufficient funds warning shows up even though you have both the Power Up and Power Down options on that page; that warning makes no sense on powering down.
That's about it I could test with that account, particularly since I couldn't log into PeakD to try some social stuff.
I hope it helps! Good luck developing it further! The NFTs section could become very nice to have in a browser extension.
