In September 1939, German troops invaded Poland, and the Second World War began - the largest and bloodiest in the history of mankind. Almost all states and eighty percent of the population of our planet were involved in it. The fighting was conducted in Europe, Asia, Africa.
The aggressors were Nazi Germany, militaristic Japan and their satellites. They planned the territorial redistribution of the world and the enslavement of peoples who were considered racially inferior.
To repel this threat, an anti-fascist coalition was created, led by the Soviet Union, the United States and Great Britain. The main burden of the fight against the enemy fell on the shoulders of the Soviet people.
Despite the defeat of the Red Army at the initial stage of the war, the USSR withstood and, together with the allies, defeated the fascists.
During this war, more than 60 million people died, of which the USSR suffered the greatest losses – 27 million and China – more than 15 million. One of the main results of the war was the creation of the United Nations.
Friends! We are searching readers, authors and sponsors for our "Top History" community. And I will never tire of repeating that "A nation that does not know its past has no future". Peace and kindness to all.
