Last weekend I got lucky and managed to squeeze through a hole in the wall that lead to George Barnsleys & Sons abandoned tool factory. I couldn't believe my luck and shot photos till I dropped! I staggered back to the car via the small hole in the wall promising myself that I would return and shoot it some more! With these locations, once word gets around that the place is accessible, it draws attention to itself and in turn the people that are supposed to look after the place!
So with imminent closure in mind, I drove over after work this evening for another photographic trip!

George Barnsley's & Sons were founded 1836 by George Barnsley, who began making and selling files. The business bought in blank steels already cut to shape and converted them into metal files and selling them on. The business evolved over the years and began making leather working tools.
After WW2, George Barnsleys started to decline as did the rest of the Sheffield cutlery and steel industries. The firm managed to survive until around 2003 and the buildings left behind are in a seriuously delapidated state, dangerous in fact!
Bucket List Shot
I've seen this shot many times around the internet, or something similar in the same place. This room was quite dark inside so using a tripod with a 20 second exposure was necessary to capture it.
The Re-shoot
I somehow missed focus on this composition last Saturday. I can't think why since I'm usually quite good at focussing in the dark! So here it is, Take 2!! The chair was repositioned for the sake of my composition OCD!
Straight lines
I used my new Sony 20mm f1.8 FE lens on this compostion where the lens shows little if not no distortion at all. Good for those with OCD!
Up the Sketchy Stairs
In my last post from this place, I eluded to the fact I wasn't brave or stupid enough to see what was at the top of the stairs. So here is what it looks like on the floor above. And the floors up this high were VERY sketchy indeed!

On the same 2nd floor level was this door leading to a room with only half a floor. You would have to have only half a brain to step inside here!

The 20mm lens I used here has a large f1.8 aperture and I've been itching to shoot shallow depth of field images. Works for me!
The Machine Shop
This room was fully of old belt driven machinery and is pretty much covered in pigeon poo. It will be a real shame if they don't save this gear when they finally demolish the place!
Spiral Staircase
Leading to the upper floors and the roof, this spiral staircase will hopefully appear in a model photoshoot sometime soon!
MC Escher
I climbed up these concrete stairs and was impressed by the colour on the walls. I love a leading line shot...
