Just thought I'd share an interesting activity In my first staff meeting since returning to school as a teacher, and also some of my own take aways from activity.
The presenter started by saying you might get tears in your eyes doing this activity. I thought ha ha yeah right, I haven't cried in a long time.
The activity involved taping a piece of paper on your back, then walk around the hall and everyone gets to write on the piece of paper saying what they think about you. So we walked around the hall and wrote on each others' backs and this is what people said about me:
Respected by peers"
Supportive and generous with time"
He came back - he loves the school"
Always has an open door"
Always puts others first"
Knowledgeable, helpful, kind and amazing"
You're awesome and we missed you"
Happy chappy always smiling"
So helpful"
Great to have you back"
Always amazing"
Knowledge"
The Best"
Great support and wonderful leader"
So so helpful, always making time for people"
Smiling face"
Always contributing and helping"
And the presenter was right - after reading what people thought about me, I did have some tears of joy and was very touched to see what my colleagues thought of me. They can see how much effort I put into my job even though they don't tell me about it everyday.
This made me think - we're always worried about what other people think of us. But in fact, what they're thinking may be a lot more positive than what we think they're thinking.
I'm so grateful to have the colleagues I have had. Teachers are wonderful. Glad to be part of this profession.
p.s. You can see there is a line in the bottom right saying you're awful at call of duty, that's a joke from one of my mates, he told me about it afterwards.
