This morning, we learned of the passing of Pepe Hasegawa. Pepe Hasegawa and I formed "Dameren" with Mr. Tsunekazu Kaminaga and others.
We formed "Dameren" together with Mr. Tsunekazu Jincho and others. Pepe Hasegawa was a representative of the movement to live happily without taking "no" negatively, such as not being able to work or not having a family.
I learned of the existence of "Dame-ren" when I was a working person or after I quit my job. I had a hard time working in a company, so I was very attracted to the idea of "Dameren" and was encouraged by it.
They seemed to be having a lot of fun holding events and opening stores, and I thought I would try it too, but my family and my boyfriend, with whom I was living at the time, were very strict about it, so it didn't work out the way I wanted.
I remember how happy I was when I was featured in a corner of a book titled "The Spirit of Mini-Comics" (Shobunsha). I think a different culture blossomed in the 90s than in the 80s.
I heard that Pepe had been at demonstrations and protests in Tokyo until just before the event, which made me realize that I was not just a "no" person after all. And now I paint every day. I guess I am "no good" by Japanese standards, but I enjoy painting, so "no good" is fine with me.

今朝、ぺぺ長谷川さん逝去の報を知りました。ぺぺ長谷川さんとは、神長恒一さんらと
「だめ連」を結成しました。「普通に働けない（働かない）」や「家族を持たない（持てない）」などの「だめ」を否定的にとらえず、楽しく生きていこうというムーブメントの代表格でした。
私は社会人の時だったか、会社をやめてからだったか、この「だめ連」の存在を知りました。私は会社勤めはとにかく辛かったので、「だめ連」の考え方にはすごく惹かれたし、勇気づけられました。
彼らはイベントをやったり、お店をやったりして楽しそう、私もやってみようと思いましたが、家族や当時同棲していた彼の目が厳しく、なかなか思うようにいかなかったです。
それでも、こういうカルチャーに触れたことで、自分でも90年代のカルチャーに加わりたいと思い、東京にある模索舎という書店でミニコミ誌をあさり、自分でもミニコミ誌を創って、「ミニコミ魂」（晶文社）という本の片隅でも紹介されて、嬉しかったのを覚えています。90年代は80年代とはまた違ったカルチャーが花開いたよなあと思います。
ペペさんは直前まで都内でのデモや抗議行動に出ていたそうで、私は、やっぱり単なる「だめ」な人ではなかったんだと思いましたけどね。そして私も今や絵を描く毎日で、日本標準から見たら「だめ」なんでしょうけど、絵を描くのは楽しいので「だめ」で結構です。
