Research has shown that over 20% of women have reported violence in and out of marriage, this include abuse in the hands of would-be spouse (boyfriend and fiance). The increase is getting higher each day and many in the society are seeing it as a norm. Knowing fully well the evil they are procreating, they (abusers) prey on the weakness of their partners, banking on lots of factors, like victims' poor background, ability to have where to go and so on. They should use though none of this life predicament against anyone. But the prey has magnified this to something else. Abusing their partner even on to death, as we have just seen recently.
Can Marital Abuse Stop?
Yes, if lots of factors are put in place, marital abuse or abuse of any kind can surely be stopped. We’ve had communities and countries with increasing healthy way of life, if we draft out how they arrived at the sanest community we can surely see from there a possibility of us having a saner clime of men, who treat their spouse with all respect and will never raise a hand.
Why Do People Still Stay In Abusive Relationships?
When victims don’t have a better way of life but depend on the man for almost everything, the boy will surely take her for granted, also some men shut their wives and spouse out of every way they could make a source of income for themselves, this limit the chances of getting out of such a relationship, with no way of escape, abusive partner Inflict more and more damages, do as he wishes and go scot-free with it.
How Can We Stop Marital Abuse?
Train these children, especially the boy child, not to use any opportunity to his advantage. He isn’t raised to be domineering with a trait of abuse; he is to respect, cater and cherish the girl child. When this is done, the boy child grows up to see his other gender as a being with the same life chances and advantages as he is. This helps to respect her, care and nourish the general interest of the girl child.
Parents at home should endeavour to leave a good example to their children. Fathers that beat their wives will surely produce children that will replicate such, because the children won’t see anything bad in it, they will continue it. Creating a chain of broken marriages and an unending lineage of an abusive family. All these can be taken care of if the parent will do their best to leave by a good example to their spouse and children.
Any lady needs to have an excellent source of income for herself before entering any relationship. It is also imperative to make sure your being in a relationship doesn’t mean you endanger yourself or see yourself as a person with no value. When ladies see themselves as a person with no value, the tendency for the guy to abuse is high.
The government should make a rule that guides against abusive relationships, with stricter sanctions and jail terms for marital abuse. I believe it will discourage abuse in relationships and marriage.
The religious bodies and church should encourage their populace to speak up where they are in an abusive relationship. Because religion castigates women who divorce and show them in a poor light, this makes many spouses suffer silently. When religious leaders open up on this, I believe many women will open up and this will help.
NGOs and various institutions inclined to solve cases of abusive partners should be empowered to investigate abuse and proffer solutions. They should also empower all these women and create a strategy that works to detach away total and finally from an abusive spouse.
Conclusion.
I believe as we are advancing each day, the demand to be more open in a relationship is opening up more wounds that have been kept silent in time past. Though we still have a long way to go as a nation, I believe too that marriage can be saved, an abusive partner can be saved too and given a better life.
While all this makes an all-encompassing healthy society, we all, as an individual should help when we see any trait of an abusive relationship. By this can we make our society be better.
