Crisis and Disaster have claimed the lives of many humans leaving many more homeless, fatherless, motherless and jobless including many negative impacts. And looking at the world condition today, you'll believe that each of us have in one way or the other been affected by those recent problems personally.
Also, tragedy and the shock associated with it renders many of it's victims hopeless and emotional flatness along with depression. Furthermore, When tragedy strikes, many victims experiences emotional paralysis which in turn, worsen the matter. The question now is: Since our world is now in turmoil, are there some precautions we can practice to minimize it's effect or impact on us?
Sure!!. There are important steps we need to take when disaster strikes to save our lives. In today's post, am going to teach or remind all of us things we should do to protect our health. But, expect more steps from me days ahead.
Disaster could affect our health either directly or indirectly. How? Let's imagine it this way. There is a fire outbreak in your city. Government asks it's citizens occupying the environment to vacate. You left with all your relevant documents. Days later, the disaster came to an end and you were asked to go back to your destination. Fortunately for you, the disaster didn't affect your building but it affected all the hospitals in your city, straining and limiting the availability of healthcare resources. Upon hearing the news, tell me, how will you feel? Sure, you must feel it despite that you're healthy at that moment. What if the disaster claimed the life of your loved one? Honestly, disaster affects us directly and indirectly.
Let me tell you something. Do you know that the conflict over there in Ukraine affected the economic condition of our country Nigeria? hmmmmm, too bad.
So, to protect our health, there are preventive measures we must practice and the are as follow:
- Practice good personal hygiene
- Get enough rest
- Eat and maintain healthy or balance diet
- Exercise regularly
Let's reason them one-by-one
(1) Practice good personal hygiene: This involves:
frequent Washing of hand with running water before and after eating and after using toilet
Always disinfect your house especially surfaces frequently touched
Avoid close range with infected individuals
(2) Eat and maintain healthy or balance diet. This includes:
- Eat varieties of fruits
- Eat plenty of vegetables
- Drink enough water
- Avoid or limit your intake of Alcohol and drugs
(3)Get enough rest and this involves:
- Having sufficient sleep
- Avoiding anything that could hinder you from having enough sleep like heavy meals, intake of caffeine and pressing of electronic devices prior to bedtime or on bed
(4) Exercise regularly: if you're the type that hates trekking or walking, you're doing yourself nothing but harm. As time goes on, you'll find out that you won't be able to run meaning that you're not physically active. Look, regular exercise helps in lowering cholesterol. Therefore, irrespective of your age and condition, regularly take some walks or try as much to exercise regularly.
All the above points are helpful tips on how to survive and protect our health during times of turmoil. But if one should overlook this tips, the outcome may be critical causing one to spend or invest more on medical expenses.
