Hello everyone! As my contribution to the first Underground Movement contest (link at the end of the post), I will tell my experience with the NFT game "Plants VS Undead", a game that some will know and some will not, but those who know it probably is because of the progressive bad reputation it has adopted shortly after its release, the bad reputation that is more than justified, but that's another topic, without further ado, let's start.
¡Muy buenas a todos! Como mi aporte al primero concurso de Underground Movement (link al final del post) contaré mi experiencia con el juego NFT “Plants VS Undead”, juego que algunos conocerán y otros no, pero los que lo conocen probablemente sea por la mala fama progresiva que ha adoptado al poco tiempo de su lanzamiento, mala fama que está más que justificada, pero ese es otro tema, sin más dilación, empecemos.
To begin with, I'm not very fond of NFT games, mostly due to my lack of resources and my inexperience, being my greatest contact with these games the explanations and experiences of a cousin who has been in these games for a while, with which I have gradually acquired knowledge about this little world, the same way in which I ended up in my first and only (to date) NFT game "Plants VS Undead", and was it a good decision? At the moment I can only say: XD.
Let's see, first, context:
Plants VS Undead is an NFT game that has gone through multiple changes since its inception, but the basic idea is to buy plants, water them, prevent crows from landing on them, harvest LE, buy things with that LE or convert it into PVU (Token) to claim seeds, buy other plants, or convert it into money, sounds simple, right?... Right?
Para empezar, yo no soy muy acérrimo a lo que juegos NFT se refiere, más que todo debido a mi falta de recursos y a mí inexperiencia, siendo mi mayor contacto con estos juegos las explicaciones y experiencias de un primo que lleva un tiempo dentro de estos, con los cuales he adquirido poco a poco conocimientos sobre este mundillo, misma forma en la que terminé dentro de mi primer y único (hasta la fecha) juego NFT “Plants VS Undead”, ¿y fue una buena decisión? Por los momentos sólo puedo decir: XD.
A ver, primero, contexto:
Plants VS Undead es un juego NFT que ha pasado por múltiples cambios desde sus inicios, pero la idea base es la de comprar plantas, regarlas, evitar que cuervos se posen sobre ellas, cosechar LE, comprar cosas con ese LE o convertirlo en PVU (Token) para reclamar semillas, comprar otras plantas, o convertirlo en dinero, suena sencillo, ¿verdad?... ¿Verdad?
Well, the reality was not so, as I had mentioned the game had gone through many changes, some good, some bad, and others with potential but poorly handled, which is fine because it is a game that is still in beta and it is normal to find all kinds of changes, but when you have to learn to adapt those changes while you encounter "unexpected circumstances" and do not know how to handle everything at the same time ... You become Plants VS Undead.
The game had a fairly simple base at the beginning, simple, effective, and flashy, maybe too flashy, in the sense that it was a total success after a little while of being released, increasing the price of the token to a considerable level even though it was in a very early stage of development, it wasn't that complicated to get in, and the rewards due to its growing popularity were more and more rewarding, reaching a point where the PVU was worth between $22 and $24 (being the highest peak as far as I remember), and you may ask me "How is it that something that sounds so good is so 'bad' nowadays? ", that's when I tell you: remember when I said "very early stage of development"? Well, that happened.
Pues la realidad no fue tan así, como había mencionado el juego había pasado por muchos cambios, algunos buenos, otros malos, y otros con potencial pero mal llevados, lo cual está bien debido a que es un juego que aún se haya en beta y es normal encontrar todo tipo de cambios, pero cuando tienes que aprender a adaptar esos cambios mientras te encuentras con “circunstancias inesperadas” y no sabes llevar todo al mismo tiempo pues… Te conviertes en Plants VS Undead.
El juego tenía una base bastante simple en un inicio, simple, efectiva, y llamativa, tal vez demasiado llamativa, en el sentido de que fue un éxito total tras un tiempito de haberse lanzado, incrementando el precio de la token a un nivel considerable aún pese a estar en una etapa muy temprana de desarrollo, no era tan complicado entrar, y las recompensas debido a su popularidad creciente eran cada vez más gratificantes, llegando a un punto en el que el PVU llegó a valer entre 22 y 24$ (siendo el pico más alto hasta donde recuerdo), y me preguntarán “¿Cómo es que algo que se escucha tan bien se encuentra tan ‘mal’ actualmente?”, ahí es cuando les digo: ¿Recuerdan cuando dije “etapa muy temprana de desarrollo”? Bueno, eso pasó.
There were so many people coming in one after another to get into one of the most promising NFT games from their perspective that it was simply chaos. The servers were not prepared for so many people, they had exceeded the average number of people that would support the server by far, too much, in fact, so despite creating the dynamics of shifts per group (half an hour per group every 2 or 3 hours, I do not remember well), bugs, crashes, and maintenance (extensive) of the server were the order of the day. From here is where I consider that the price of PVU (T) went down more and more, not fast enough to get everyone off the boat nor denying the possibility of making a profit, but steady.
I got into the game when the coin was around $12, a considerable but affordable price, I had the support of my cousin so I didn't have as much margin for loss more than I owed because of borrowing, and in the beginning, everything was going well, it was fun, I checked the crop every so often, and I managed my resources as well as I could, after a few weeks I was able to get some income, not a very large sum, but enough to be sure that it was working, after that I decided that the LE I harvested I was going to invest in the same game to get more profit, an idea that unfortunately could not pay off...
Eran tantas las personas que llegaban una tras otra para entrar a uno de los juegos NFT con mayor futuro desde su perspectiva que simplemente todo era un caos. Los servidores no estaban preparados para tantas personas, habían rebasado el promedio de personas que soportaría el servidor por mucho, demasiado de hecho, por lo que pese a crear la dinámica de turnos por grupo (media hora por grupo cada 2 o 3 horas, no recuerdo bien), los bugs, las caídas, y los mantenimientos (extensos) del servidor estaban a la orden del día. A partir de aquí es donde considero que el precio del PVU (T) fue bajando cada vez más y más, no lo suficientemente rápido como para que todos se bajaran del barco ni negando la posibilidad de conseguir ganancias, pero sí constante.
Yo entré al juego cuando la moneda rondaba los 12$, un precio considerable pero accesible, contaba con el apoyo de mi primo así que no tenía tanto margen de pérdida más de lo que debía a causa de lo prestado, y al comienzo todo iba bien, era divertido, revisaba el cultivo cada cierto tiempo, y manejaba tan bien mis recursos como podía, a un punto en el que a las pocas semanas ya pude sacar ingresos, no una suma muy grande, pero sí para tener certeza de que funcionaba, después de eso decidí que el LE que cosechara lo iba a invertir en el mismo juego para obtener más ganancias, idea que lamentablemente no pudo rendir sus frutos…
Little by little the idea of PVU (Game) was becoming more established, while the currency was slowly dropping in price, a price that did nothing but plummets even more when investing part of that value in the PVP of the game (summary: it is entertaining, I never got the hang of it because I played it for weeks and after a while decisions started to be made in which it was not profitable to continue playing unless you were very lucky so I quit). Then there was a time of uncertainty in which it was not known what the future of the game was, several people were getting off the boat, and one kept waiting to see if a messiah would come out of the darkness...
Suddenly one day, the CEO's meeting with others was rumored, the rumors became official, the official a fact, and the fact in an announcement, an announcement that brought hope back into the dull hearts of those who checked their crop every 3 hours, an announcement that revealed the future of PVU (G), new modes to experience, more game modes to explore, more options to try, an expansion that would bring fresh air to the game and hopefully bring a lot of the lost audience back, the rise of PVU (G) was on the horizon with version 3.0!
Poco a poco se iba estableciendo mejor la idea de PVU (Game), mientras que la moneda iba bajando de precio lentamente, precio que no hizo más que desplomarse aún más al invertir parte de ese valor en el PVP del juego (resumen: es entretenido, nunca le agarré el rollo porque lo jugué a las semanas y después de un tiempito se empezaron a tomar decisiones en las que no era rentable seguir jugando a menos de que tuvieras mucha suerte por lo que lo dejé). Después hubo un tiempo de incertidumbre en el que no se sabía cuál era el futuro del juego, varias personas se bajaban del barco, y uno se mantenía a ver si un Mesías salía desde las tinieblas…
De pronto un día, la junta del CEO con otras personas se rumoreaba, los rumores se hicieron oficiales, lo oficial un hecho, y el hecho en un anuncio, un anuncio que devolvió la esperanza en los corazones apagados de aquellos que revisaban su cultivo cada 3 horas, un anuncio que revelaba el futuro de PVU (G), nuevas modalidades que experimentar, más modos de juego que explorar, más opciones por probar, una expansión que traería un aire fresco al juego y con suerte haría que mucho del público perdido se animara a volver, ¡se presentía el ascenso de PVU (G) con la versión 3.0!
... However, we had only received an approximate season for the release of the update, days passed, weeks passed, months passed, there was nothing, only small changes one by one to prepare for 3. 0 that only killed the grace of the game and several seemed nonsense, those of us who continued endured the slow but sure devaluation of the token with the hope that the 3.0 would fix everything, finally a month was given, and then an approximate date, to those I just let myself fall at the mercy of fate, with the expectations on the sidelines to not leave disappointed.
Finally, the day came, with a clamped update, and a line marking various updates and what each would bring... I wasn't expecting anything but still came away disappointed (ok, I'll stop with the drama xD). Despite saying it would keep expectations on the sidelines, it seemed to have them too high by expecting one big update instead of several small ones, letting you see that they wanted to keep a steady pace to add things and not let players die, quite the right tactic and the key to the success of many games nowadays, but when you're PVU (G), it's not so beneficial, or at least in the short term.
… No obstante, sólo habíamos recibido una temporada aproximada para la salida de la actualización, pasaron los días, pasaron las semanas, pasaron los meses, no había nada, sólo pequeños cambios de uno en uno para prepararse para la 3.0 que sólo mataban la gracia del juego y varias parecían un despropósito, los que continuábamos aguantábamos la lenta pero segura devaluación de la token con la esperanza de que la 3.0 arreglaría todo, finalmente se dio un mes, y después una fecha aproximada, a esas yo sólo me dejé caer a merced del destino, con las expectativas al margen para no salir decepcionado.
Finalmente el día llegó, con una actualización agarrada con pinzas, y una línea marcando varias actualizaciones y lo que traería cada una… No esperaba nada, pero aun así salí decepcionado (okno, ya dejo el drama xD). Pese a decir que mantendría las expectativas al margen, en realidad parecía que las tenía demasiado altas al esperar una gran actualización en vez de varias pequeñas, dejando ver que querían mantener un ritmo constante para añadir las cosas y no dejar a los jugadores morir, táctica bastante acertada y que de hecho es la clave del éxito de muchos juegos actualmente, pero cuando eres PVU (G), no resulta tan beneficiosa, o al menos a corto plazo.
Currently, the game has more mini-games and the odd new model, I keep up with the updates but haven't played again for a while, it was becoming increasingly uncomfortable to play and the experience was no longer enjoyable for me, I'm not saying the additions are bad, I just haven't designed to try them, maybe I will miss something better in the future, maybe, nobody knows, I just know that I still have several PVU (T) waiting in my account to see if with a lot of luck the game has success again no matter how momentary it is to see if it is worth to continue, or retire as a warrior who endured against all odds to get his loot.
In conclusion, Plants VS Undead was a promising game that was not prepared for the fame it was going to carry in such a short time, which tried to get up many times, stumbling quite a few times, and currently struggling to get back to what it once was. As for its players they either left, or they are staying, or they are keeping an eye out to find out what will happen to the game they invested so much time and/or money in, and at the moment I am part of the latter group.
Actualmente el juego cuenta con más minijuegos y alguna que otra nueva modalidad, me mantengo al tanto de las actualizaciones pero no he vuelto a jugar por un tiempo, cada vez era más incómodo jugar y la experiencia ya no era disfrutable para mí, no digo que las adiciones sean malas, sólo no me he dignado a probarlas, tal vez me pierda de algo mejor a futuro, tal vez no, nadie lo sabe, sólo sé que aún tengo varios PVU (T) esperando en mi cuenta a ver si con mucha suerte el juego vuelve a tener un éxito sin importar cuán momentáneo sea para ver si vale la pena seguir, o retirarse como un guerrero que aguantó contra viento y marea para hacerse con su botín.
En conclusión, Plants VS Undead era un juego prometedor que no estaba preparado para la fama que iba a acarrear en tan poco tiempo, el cual trató de levantarse muchas veces, tropezando bastantes, y actualmente luchando para volver a ser lo que alguna vez fue. En cuanto a sus jugadores o se fueron, o se mantienen, o se mantienen al tanto para saber qué sucederá con el juego en el que invirtieron tanto tiempo y/o dinero, y por los momentos formo parte del último grupo.
What's going to happen with Plants VS Undead? I don't know, I just hope for good things, because beyond some numbers I own in my account, it is sad when something promising falls like that, and if it manages to emerge victorious from this one, it really would be quite motivating, not only for gamers, not only for NFTs but for people in general, as an example of what sometimes not giving up can achieve, even when you fall to the lowest.
¿Qué va a pasar con Plants VS Undead? No lo sé, sólo espero que cosas buenas, porque más allá de unos números que poseo en mi cuenta, realmente es triste cuando algo prometedor cae de esa forma, y si logra salir victorioso de esta, realmente sería bastante motivador, no sólo para los jugadores, no sólo para los NFT, sino para las personas en general, como un ejemplo de lo que a veces el no rendirse puede lograr, aun cuando caes hasta lo más bajo.
