This week's hive open mic theme is Love of Family.
Family to me is defined by the connections that our human experience here on mother earth provides. Every day I am grateful for this existence. My immediate family, my four beautiful children. My friends both locally and around the world. For the beautiful connections within the communities that I am grateful to be part of here on Hive.
I've been busy over on #NaturalMedicine viewing all the lovely posts for the #EarthDayChallenge. I have been wracking my brains to find a way to incorporate Earth Day and Family into my contribution for this week so I decided to go with this song I wrote just over 2 years ago while living offgrid.
When the Last Tree Is Cut Down, the Last Fish Eaten, and the Last Stream Poisoned, You Will Realize That You Cannot Eat Money
I had been contemplating this famous Native American proverb which was my inspiration for the song. Visualizing the pollution and destruction of the planet, corporate greed, and the quick buck culture that drives a throw-away attitude and little compassion for our fellow humans.
I wanted to use this to spark inspiration and raise awareness about these issues.
So how do Earth Day, environmentalism, and family tie together?
I believe that all inhabitants of the earth are a collective. Our mother provides us with the necessary elements to thrive. We all work together in synchronicity, even humans, many of whom have become detached from the source but have the ability to relearn what has been lost. We are all part of this family on an amazing planet that can support life.
Humans are also family, and thinking back to some of the themes in the past few weeks, such as Unity and Freedom, we can work together as a collective family uplifting and communing peacefully and positively. We have the ability to unite in love and kindness to grow our conscious mindset. To become the loving, caring family of our beloved Mother Earth. Something that I feel music has the power to do...
Earth's Whispers
And the soil is a desert where once plants grew strong?
Where will we go when the seas are just sand?
And the oceans and rivers turn to waste from our hands?
Where will we go when the birds fly away?
And the animal kingdom is full of decay?
Where will we go when the skies are all filled with
The darkness of poison from chemical spills.
When the last birds sing
When the last whale calls
We will notice these things.
Taking each breath like it could be the last.
Mountain stand tall mountain stand proud
Listen to her calling
Earth's whispers are loud.
Is taking its toll on the home that we love
When will we realize that material things
Keep us enslaved to a system of corporate kings
We know that it's wrong and we know we should stop.
Consider the impact when you go to the shop
Sometimes the options are cheaper
But at what cost to our Mother?
Taking each breath like it could be the last.
Mountain stand tall mountain stand proud
Listen to her calling
Earth's whispers are loud.
