A cordial greeting to all the participants of this beautiful Open Mic community. In this week #277, we explore the theme: “Summer Love.” I am pleased to share my trumpet performance of “A Summer Place,” a waltz composed by Max Steiner for the 1959 film of the same name. This piece was originally titled “Molly and Johnny Theme” and is arranged predominantly for strings such as the violin, viola, cellos, and double basses. Playing it on the trumpet is truly innovative, and I enjoy performing it. I should inform you that at one point, I ran out of breath, and I took breaths where I had none. The melody is lyrical, fluid, and pendulous. The key in which the performer is located is C Major with a slight key change to D Major. The tempo is moderate with a ¾ bar indicator in its original version. The sheet music I found was in 6/8. It is a typical song of the Easy Listening style of the time.

Un cordial saludo para todos los participantes de esta bella comunidad del Open Mic. En esta semana #277, exploramos la temática: “Summer Love”. Tengo el agrado de compartir mi interpretación con mi trompeta de «A Summer Place», un vals compuesto por Max Steiner para la película del mismo nombre de 1959. Esta pieza fue originalmente titulada "Molly and Johnny Theme" y es un arreglo predominantemente de cuerdas como el violín, viola, cellos y contrabajos. Tocarla con la trompeta es verdaderamente innovador y me da gusto interpretarla. Si les informo que en un momento me quede sin aire, y saque aire de donde no tenía. La melodía es lírica, fluida y pendular. La tonalidad en que la interpreto se encuentra en C Mayor con un leve cambio de tonalidad a D Mayor. El tempo es moderado con una cifra indicadora de compas de ¾ en su versión original. La partitura que encontré estaba en 6/8. Es una canción típica del estilo Easy Listening de la época.
There are fleeting loves, and when you love, you must do so with intensity and passion. Many things have an expiration date, either because the world changes, or because we do too. I hold in my mind the memories of summer loves, those from school, high school, vacations, and college. Some faded in time, and I even thought at one point that I'd never love someone the same way again. I met a beautiful and intelligent woman at university, and as soon as we graduated, we lost touch, forgetting about each other, or at least I think so, or perhaps both. It was one of those times when one lived carefree in long conversations about life, dreams, history, and geography. We left those memories to the nostalgia of the past. Today, my beliefs have evolved in this regard; for me, developing commitment and a deeper and more lasting connection is a priority. Many blessings to all, enjoy my performance.

Existen amores fugaces, y es que cuando se ama se debe hacer con intensidad y pasión. Hay muchas cosas que tienen fecha de caducidad, ya sea porque el mundo cambia, y nosotros también. Guardo en mi mente los recuerdos de los amores de verano, de aquellos de la escuela, del liceo, de las vacaciones y de la universidad. Algunos se desvanecieron en el tiempo y hasta se pensó alguna vez que no se volvería amar a alguien de la misma manera. Conocí en la Universidad a una hermosa e inteligente mujer, y apenas nos graduamos perdimos contacto, nos olvidamos, o al menos eso creo yo, o ambos. Fue de esas épocas donde uno vivía despreocupado en largas conversaciones sobre la vida, los sueños, sobre la historia, y la geografía. Le dejamos esos recuerdos a la nostalgia del pasado. Hoy día, mis creencias han evolucionado al respecto, para mi es prioritario el desarrollo del compromiso y de una conexión mas profunda y duradera. Muchas bendiciones para todos, que disfruten de mi interpretación.
