A greeting to everyone in this beautiful Open Mic community. In this week #272, we explore the theme: “Ring the Bells.” I am pleased to share my trumpet performance of “The Bells of Notre Dame,” a song composed by Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz for the 1996 Disney film “The Hunchback of Notre Dame.” The lyrics speak of Notre Dame Cathedral as a sanctuary for Quasimodo’s mother, a moral compass for the Archdeacon, and a center of power and justice for Frollo. This musical piece is in D minor with a dark, gothic tone and blends genres such as liturgical Gregorian chant and Broadway-style pop. The bell motif reflects the soul of Paris and the cathedral and contrasts with the “Hellfire” motif, which depicts Frollo’s corruption. I love the melody and rhythm for their time signature changes and dramatic dynamics.

Un cordial saludo para todos en esta bella comunidad del Open Mic. En esta semana #272, exploramos la temática: “Ring The Bells”. Tengo el agrado de compartir mi interpretación con mi trompeta de «The Bells of Notre Dame», una canción compuesta por Alan Menken y Stephen Schwartz para la película de Disney de 1996 "El Jorobado de Notre Dame". La letra habla de la catedral de Notre Dame como un santuario para la madre de Quasimodo, una brújula moral para el Arcediano y un centro del poder y de justicia para Frollo. Esta pieza musical se encuentra en D menor con un tono oscuro y gótico, y mezcla géneros como el canto gregoriano litúrgico y el pop al estilo broadway. El motivo de las campanas refleja el alma de París y la catedral y contrasta con el motivo "Hellfire” que muestra la corrupción de Frollo. Me encanta la melodía y el ritmo por sus cambios de métrica, y por una dinámica cargada de dramatismo.
It's often frustrating when someone doesn't follow instructions exactly. Perhaps, due to overconfidence, we believe we can accomplish things without help. How many times have we purchased a piece of furniture that we need to build using a manual? Perhaps, because the path is so simple, we think a GPS isn't necessary. Pride can lead us to dead ends and make us feel lost. One activity my nephew loves is putting together puzzles, but I'm sure that if he didn't have insight into what he needs to put together, it would be difficult to put together. It's the same in music. When you read a score and follow its instructions, you can perform accurately and effectively. Likewise, it's key to follow the conductor's directions—each instruction, one step at a time. I hope you enjoy my participation this week.

Suele ser frustrante cuando alguien no sigue las instrucciones al pie de la letra. Puede ser que, debido a una autoconfianza excesiva, podemos creer que podemos lograr las cosas sin ayuda. ¿Cuántas veces compramos alguna pieza para el hogar que necesitamos construir usando un manual? Puede ser que, debido a la sencillez del camino, pensemos que no es necesario un GPS. El orgullo puede conducirnos a lugares sin salida, y a sentirnos perdidos. Una actividad que le encanta a mi sobrino es armar rompecabezas, pero estoy seguro de que, si él no tuviera una perspectiva de lo que debe armar, sería difícil de construirlo. En la música es igual. Cuando lees una partitura y sigues sus instrucciones, puedes interpretarla con precisión y eficacia. Igualmente, es clave seguir las indicaciones del director de la orquesta. Cada instrucción, un paso a la vez. Espero que disfruten de mi participación esta semana.
