Hello everyone. It's Wednesday already. Happy new week. Larry the postman is really grateful that his week is moving on smoothly. He has been able to discharge the allotted mails successfully. As he meditates on the state of the nation, the current hardship faced by the populace over the removal of fuel subsidy and as it relates to his business of deliveries, he shudders. He praises the people for tagging along despite everything. Prices of goods and services are really on the increase. To ease off Larry decides to have a look at today in #history.
Larry begins from Africa. What did he see, The island of Sao Tome and Principe. Larry finds out that on this day in 1975 the island nation of Sao Tome and Principe gained independence from Portugal.
From there, Larry moves to Asia wherein he finds out that on this day in 1935, Ōmura Satoshi, a Japanese microbiologist best known for discovering natural products, particularly those derived from soil bacteria was born in Yamanashi, Japan. Of note was Ōmura’s discovery of the bacterium Streptomyces avermitilis, from which the anthelmintic compound avermectin was isolated.
Mura was awarded the 2015 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his contributions to the discovery of avermectin and ivermectin, an honour he shares with Irish-born American parasitologist William Campbell and Chinese scientist Tu Youyou.
Larry moves down to South America precisely Argentina. He finds out that on this day in 1852, Hipólito Irigoyen, an Argentine statesman who was elected as his country's first president through universal suffrage was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He was however forced out of office in 1930 via a military coup during his second term.
Larry then takes his attention to Europe. He finds out that on this day in 2005, the only son of Prince Rainier III and Grace Kelly, Prince Albert II, formally assumed the throne of Monaco.
Finally, Larry rounds off his look at today in history with the world of music as he finds out that on this day in 1962, The Rolling Stones, an iconic British rock group, performed their debut show as the Rollin' Stones in a club in London.
