Hello everyone. Hope we had a nice day? Well, Larry had a busy day yesterday and woke up slightly later than usual because of the volume of parcels and deliveries he made. But before e dashed out to begin further deliveries for the day he decides to have a look at today in #history. Larry finds out the following historical events:
Gentlemen, Larry begins his look at today in history from the world of mountains and mountaineering. He finds out that on this day in 1865, British mountaineer Edward Whymper became the first person to climb the Matterhorn. Matterhorn is one of the most well-known mountain in the Alps, located 6 miles (10 km) southwest of the Swiss resort of Zermatt. Its elevation is 14,692 feet (4,478 meters). Such a high elevation.
From there Larry moves over to France where he discovers that on this day in 2016, a man drove a truck through a crowd of revelers celebrating Bastille Day in Nice, killing more than 80 people and injured hundreds in France's third major terrorist attack in 18 months.
Still in France, Larry finds out that on this day in 1789, a mob stormed the Bastille in Paris, demanding that arms and munitions be stored thereat. When the guards resisted, the crowd took control of the jail, symbolizing the end of the ancien régime.
Larry then moves over to the middle east where he finds out that on this day in 2017, a certain Maryam Mirzakhani, the first woman and the first Iranian to receive the Fields Medal for "outstanding contributions to the dynamics and geometry of Riemann surfaces and their moduli spaces," died at the age of 40.
Finally, Larry moves bwck to the middle east where he also finds out that Faisal II, the last king of Iraq, who reigned from 1939 to 1958 died on this day in 1958.
Having seen all these pieces of historical events, Larry then picks up his parcels and begins his day activities.
