A week ago, the SpendHBD community introduced something new. A refreshing way to onboard real people to the Hive blockchain. And no, it's not just about onboarding shoppers, but actual potential value creators. That’s what makes this initiative so exciting. I had tried it before without much luck, but yesterday, everything worked. For the first time, I successfully onboarded someone to Hive using this new method, and it was an amazing experience.
Yesterday, at Happy Customer Supermarket, a woman walked in and showed genuine interest in what was going on. She didn’t just want to shop, she wanted to be part of the movement. Interestingly, she wasn’t even from the city. She came all the way from Port Harcourt because someone else—@ladyfoth—had told her a bit about the SpendHBD community and the Hive-powered Blockchain Supermarket. Her curiosity brought her in, and she came to see things for herself. That was already impressive.
I started by creating a Hive account for her through spendhbd.com/sign-up.
I paid 3 HIVE for the account and delegated some Resource Credits to make sure she could use the blockchain smoothly from day one.
Once her keys were generated, I helped her download them safely and explained how to back them up securely, because, as we all know, losing your keys means losing your account.
Setting Up Keychain
She had never used any type of crypto wallet before, so I walked her through installing the Hive Keychain app from the Play Store. She chose a PIN and started playing around with the login feature using her biometrics and PIN to ensure she was comfortable with it.
Once that was done, I imported her Hive account into the keychain using her keys. Now we had a working wallet, and I gave her a quick breakdown of the basics—balances, transactions, and how to stay safe.
The Check-In Process
Now came the part I was most excited about: checking in with her.

Here’s how it went step by step:
Selfie Upload – She snapped and uploaded a selfie as required.
Short Introduction– She asked if this step replaced the usual long-form Hive intro post. I told her, yes—it does. That’s one of the things I love about this new method. It makes onboarding easier and more user-friendly. For many newcomers, writing a full intro post can be intimidating or delayed for too long.
Onboarded By– She filled in my username as her onboarding contact.
Community Selection – She selected the Spend HBD ommunity where her intro post would be published.
Lightning Address – This was already integrated and set.
Country Selection*– She picked her country (Nigeria).
Map Location– Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t on our side, so the system couldn’t fetch her exact location via GPS. We skipped that step and moved on.
And that was it—a complete check-in successfully done and her introduction was published on Hive
First Rewards
I immediately visited her post and left a comment, as required for validation.
Moments later, she received 2 HBD as an onboarding bonus straight into her wallet!
She was ecstatic. She couldn’t stop smiling and immediately bought a few more items using her bonus. Then I introduced her to distriator.com, where she could redeem discounts and also explore other Hive-powered businesses closer to her in PH city.
She kept thanking me, but honestly, all thanks go to the SpendHBD community for building such a clean, powerful, and thoughtful onboarding system. This is truly a step forward for onboarding real people to the Hive blockchain, not just as users, but as future value creators.
This experience has encouraged me, and I can’t wait to onboard even more people using the Check-in With… method.
