Hello Hive community, abroad and in Split!
The conference part of HiveFest is over, and today would have been the day to do the boat trip. Only, seaside weather can be tricky and the weather forecast was scary, especially when taking into consideration that the polar north sent down rain and snow to Middle-Europe. The Croatian coast however stays strong against rains and winds, this picture taken today morning at the harbor.
Sooo, let's recap the past two days, which have been the hard work part š
I will start with a heartfelt Thank you for your amazing organization and work! to @roelandp and @lordbutterfly who have made this #hivefest an amazing experience, setting up and organizing the best conference I have been to for a long time.
So much fun and networking, and so much to learn about #Hive!
If we talk in bee terms, I have barely left my comb. If at all I can qualify as a mini-bee, in terms of a bee life. So it was amazing to meet all the people I have been following and reading about or voting for as #witnesses, in real life.
Having been to #buzzfest in Hamburg earlier this year, it was a relief to see some familiar faces!
Anyway, even without knowing anyone, the Hive #community is the most welcoming and friendly crowd I have ever seen ā¤ļø
Talks, talks, talks. And more talks.
My head's still buzzing with all the information on new and old features of Hive, DApps, projects, tokens created. This beautiful "plant" above the panel for example depicts the development of the Hive blockchain over the years, all the projects built on it.
Friends, attend Hivefest, you get such a great insight into the Hive ecosystem and you'll meet awesome people behind the projects you are supporting. #web3 is great, but it's just half the fun without #reallife #community experiences adding to it!
I hope somebody will give a full recap of the program, I will just pick a few.
I am sitting in my appartment which I have added to #worldmappin - a great project on Hive to pin your travels and your experiences. While I am writing this, I did my first pin: Marangoon Apartment Split - that's the place where I am staying!š„³
ā
First task completed. Worldmappin works just fine @detlev ! Many more #pins to come šš
I also had a slot on stage on Day 1 but that's another post and story. So, hit the follow button to stay tuned! š¤
The Diocletian Palace and its basement
On Day 2, Hivefest went underground into the basement of the Diocletian Palace. Here's the short story: The Roman Emperor Diocletian was looking for a good place to retire. He came to Split and built his castle there. The entire fortress and castle area is the Old Town of Split and forms the (touristic) heart of the city. For Game of Thrones fans, when Tyrion visits the dragons, that was actually filmed where we went to listen to presentations on Day 2.š
The Water Direct Project
Among all the talks I was most happy to see that @mcsamm was still building water wells in #ghana with the support of the #hivecommunity!
But here's the news. The #waterdirect project was turned into a film! @mcsamm teamed up with @mynewlife and produced an amazing documentary which premiered in Split!
For those of you, who haven't heard about it - Hive has sponsored 18 water wells of potable water for communities in Ghana so far. You might ask, what is so special about it? Apart from electricity supply water is the most needed basic good in African communities. It answers to the UN Sustainable Development Goals | SDG No. 6, which is about clean water and sanitation. So with the support of Hive we are actually making a huge step towards the UN SDGs.
This project is so special for me personally because I know a bit about NGO work in Africa. And it is grass-root projects such as the Water Direct initiative that really strive. We should all team up and think about how we can scale this initiative and also ensure Hive adoption in the communities so that they can own their part in this by blogging about their lives and challenges, creating awareness and income.
This get's me to the end of my recap. It's time for some billard with new friends š±! The weather is still fair as you can see - so bye for now!
