Well well well, the new dropped this week that the 10th anniversary of Hive will drop in Malaysia from 15 to 19 October. That is something to be exited about as meetups are literally always the best thing to hang out with!
The funny thing on this edition was that I read this in the Hivefest telegram group even before I read this on Hive itself. Ain't that something about news feeds and how they work?
The community get together and that in a fantastic part of the world. My initial thought on all of these events is always 'heck scew everything and let me book a ticket because why not. This stuff is fun!'
But of course there is always reality!

Let's do a little deep dive
The cool thing about hosting these types of events in a major city and travelhub is that there is a tremendous amount of options in flight to get over there.
Looking at a brief glance on skyscanner coming from Amsterdam (which is not really one of the cheapest airports to start from) there are tons of options already from $550 buck with just one stopover in there.
Not bad at all actually! Direct flights as always are a lot more expensive but could really save some time. Flying from Dusseldorf which is also always a great option is about the same price, but it will take a lot more time.
When looking at places to stay in the city, I was genuinely surprised about how cheap this can be. Staying somewhere during hivefest is for me just a place to sleep and chill for a bit, because in general it means you will be on the road most of the time.
I mean taking a studio for a week for 300 bucks in the center of the city (this is literally one of the first things that I found) is really just a good deal to do.

But Malaysia itself is worth the trip already
For me if I would travel to Malaysia for Hivefest, this would totally be a combination trip. I mean, the country just seems awesome and worth visiting and when in Rome you know.

The option of heading to the island of Langkawi has been on my hotlist for a long time already. Or what heading to the Cameron Highlands.
Malaysia is one of those countries where the options in landscaping seem endless

Damn this all seems fantastic!

But then there is the timing aspect
And the timing is kind of crap for me actually, which is a total bummer. As @roelandp already replied to me in another post (who has been an excellent host actually for all of these Hivefest editions, check him out!!) this is autumn vacation for the South of the Netherlands.
Getting that period of time off from work for me, that is a big challenge as I should have done that already a long time ago. Yup, Dutchies are big in planning and I really suck in this.
Because Malaysia is such a fantastic country that deserves a longer period of visiting time, I am not sure at all that getting this period time off will be possible for me.
Hmmmm this is a total bummer, as this country is also big on my hotlist to visit upcoming winter. But not earlier in 2025.
So I will keep this in mind, see what my options are keep an eye on what is going on. But already saying that I will going, crap I can not do that this time!
