A few days ago I finally went ahead and booked our stay at the Kuala Lumpur Journal Hotel. I reserved the Deluxe Triple Room for my brother and me. We don’t really need separate rooms and we get along well enough to share a space without any issues. The room comes with a queen-size bed and a separate single bed which works out perfectly for the two of us.
What makes this hotel special, just like in previous years during HiveFest, is that it’s the official HiveFest partner hotel. That means we were able to book at a discounted rate through the event. For the Triple Room including breakfast, I’m paying 472 Malaysian Ringgit per night which is roughly 111 US dollars including taxes and service charges. It’s definitely a bit more than what I’d normally spend per night when I’m traveling through Asia but considering the location, the comfort, and the HiveFest connection I think it’s well worth it. Sometimes you just have to treat yourself.
The plan is to arrive in Kuala Lumpur two days before HiveFest starts so we can explore the city a bit and ease into the trip. I was in Malaysia once before, back in 2019, but only for a short time. Back then I managed to see the Petronas Towers and the Batu Caves, which were both impressive, but this time I’d like to take things a bit slower. Arriving a couple of days early just makes sense. It gives us a chance to settle in, adjust to the climate, and mentally arrive before the full HiveFest energy kicks in.
After the event, we’re also planning to stay one extra night. If you’ve ever been to HiveFest, you’ll know the closing dinner is legendary, and there’s no way we’re flying out the next morning with no time to recover or reflect. That extra day gives us the breathing room we’ll probably need. It’s also a great chance to get ready for the next leg of our travels through Asia. Who knows, maybe we’ll meet a few fellow Hivians at the event who are also heading in a similar direction. It wouldn’t be the first time Hive connections turn into spontaneous travel plans.
Now that I’ve at least secured the hotel for us, the next thing on my list is to start looking for a suitable flight to Asia. Ideally something that doesn’t break the bank. I’ve already started doing a bit of research here and there, and from what I’ve seen so far, Qatar Airways seems to offer some pretty decent deals if you’re flying out of Brussels, with a layover in Doha.
It’s kind of frustrating how flights from Germany are consistently more expensive. We’re not talking small differences either — often several hundred euros more than if you fly from a neighboring country. Since I’m in Belgium from time to time anyway, departing from there might actually make sense this time. It’s something I’ll definitely consider if it helps save a bit and makes the journey smoother.
For now I’m just keeping an eye on the flight prices, checking every few days to see if something better comes up. Sometimes it’s really just a matter of timing and luck.
How are things looking on your end? Have you already booked your flights and hotel in Kuala Lumpur? I’d love to hear how your planning is going. And if you have any tips for traveling around Asia afterwards, definitely drop them in the comments. Always happy to get inspired by others’ plans and maybe even coordinate a bit if anyone’s heading in a similar direction.
