Good morning, everyone. I'm definitely a morning person—especially during the German summer, when the sun rises early. I sometimes find myself waking up around 4:30 a.m. (like a grandma 😁). It’s probably partly due to the sunrise and maybe aging too, but mostly, I think it’s because I’m just too excited to step out onto the quiet balcony and look at the plants.
So what do I actually do that early in the morning? First, I go to the bathroom to brush my tongue and teeth, and check my weight. Then I walk around the apartment opening the windows. Letting the cool morning air in helps keep the house comfortable throughout the day—even in Germany, where most homes don’t have an air conditioner still.
On the yoga mat I left out from the previous night’s session (haha, it's in the kitchen!), I start my morning practice: 10 rounds of sun salutations and tree pose held for 10 breaths on each side. This gently wakes my body. After yoga, I brew a cup of coffee, step out onto the balcony, and enjoy watering the plants or simply observing them while I sip. Around 5 a.m., when most people are still asleep but the sun is just beginning to rise and birds are singing, it feels like time belongs to nature—not to humans.
Then it’s around 6 a.m. I write the date in my notebook, check the day’s plans, and start getting ready. Around 7, my family begins to wake up. If I have a little extra time, I’ll write a blog post or share a photo of the garden on Instagram.
I truly love these quiet summer mornings.
How do you spend your morning hours?
みなさんおはようございます。私は朝型で、特にドイツの日の出の早い夏場は、4時台に起きてしまうこともあります。おばあちゃん😁 日の出の時間や、歳をとったのもあるとは思うのですが、多分朝静かなバルコニーに出て植物を眺めるのが楽しすぎて起きてしまうのだと思います。
そんなに朝早く起きて何するのかというと、まず、洗面所で舌磨きと歯磨きと体重測定をします。そのあと、家中の窓を開けて歩きます。換気と合わせて、朝のうちに涼しい空気を通しておくと、冷房のないドイツでも日中比較的快適に過ごせるからです。
前日の夜ヨガからキッチンに（！）敷きっぱなしにしてあるヨガマットで、太陽礼拝を10回、木のポーズを左右10呼吸ずつの朝ヨガをするとゆっくり体が起きてきます。ヨガを終えたらコーヒーをいれて、バルコニーに出て、コーヒーを飲みながら水やりをしたり植物を観察したります。なんというか、まだ多くの人は寝ていて、でも太陽がのぼり始めて鳥が鳴いていて、4時台、5時台って人間の時間ではなく自然の時間なんですよね。
そうこうしていると6時くらいになっていて、ノートに日付を書いて、その日の予定を確認して、朝の支度をしていると、家族が起きてくる7時くらいになります。もうちょっと時間があると、ブログを書いたり、インスタに庭の様子を投稿したりもします。
そんな感じの一人静かに過ごす夏の朝時間が大好きです。
