You always start with one, but our goal throughout life should be to create several of these passive incomes and businesses, which then become our support for true personal freedom and fulfillment
When I saw what our Silver Prompt: Passive Income was about this week, I was thinking about how much or little I have achieved in this regard knowing that I have just turned 49 years old and I still have not achieved everything I dreamed of.
This also reminded me of one morning when I was at my workplace and everyone was talking about a person whom I admired very much because at her advanced age she was still working and she did it with a lot of energy, with impetus, with pride, she was my inspiration, I had always said that if I reached that age I wanted to be like her, because she was always with a smile, encouraging others, teaching us with her example how things should be.
That morning we talked about what we wanted in life and I had the brilliant idea of expressing my thoughts out loud and I said: _I want to retire at an early age, have my own source of income, take care of my children and enjoy life to the fullest. Many laughed (I always say things that make people laugh), even scoffed for quite a while, but that didn't stop me from dreaming and making it big.
Thank God everything has been given to me, at 37 years of age I retired, I took care of my children and their education, I also found something to dedicate myself to and that is what has made me happy for 12 years.
Coming out of retirement at an early age was just a dream, the truth is that seeing it come suddenly was something unexpected; I had been in the public administration for 17 years and that was the only thing I knew how to do. At first it was difficult, I had to get used to being at home, organize my new schedule, dedicate myself more to my children's activities and so little by little I accepted that my life had taken a 360-degree turn.
Soon after, I received my severance check plus other royalties and it was then that I had the exact budget to invest in what would be my immediate future.
I remember that I looked for a commercial place to rent and set up a store where I could sell yarns, ribbons, needles, among others, here in Venezuela we call it a haberdashery. At that moment reality hit me, what I had collected plus what I had saved was not enough for anything; I spent several days thinking and talking to many people and that was where a great woman, a friend, Mrs. Carmen told me: dedicate yourself to handicrafts.
She had seen in me for years that I liked what she did, I always asked her questions, asked her for advice when I wanted to make my curtains, my cushions and we talked about fabrics, colors, paints and more. That was definitely the best advice I have ever received in my life because it marked a before and after, it divided my history in two.
With my capital I bought two good quality sewing machines, I did workshops, knitting, sewing and embroidery courses. I took one of the rooms in the house and turned it into the workshop where the magic would take place and everything began to take shape. I immediately started selling my products and I kept on learning day after day.
Selling handicrafts is really easy; offering this type of service is good because not everyone knows how to sew but they want to have their homes beautiful, well arranged. Here in Venezuela women are always renewing the curtains, the linen in their bathrooms and kitchen and that makes that half of the work is almost ready, you just have to offer a good product and you will always have your regular customers every year.
Of everything I do I like baby lingerie, fabrics and embroidery the most, I consider that my forte because I am really passionate about it, so doing it is not difficult at all and much less I consider it a job but rather a hobby.
Earning money doing what you like is the best thing in life, being where you like, being surrounded by people who do the same as you, selling a variety of products, that's what makes me want to get up every day and continue.
That is why this would be my main source of income since I retired and it has given me economic freedom to help at home, help my loved ones and give me one or another gift for myself and pamper myself because I deserve it.
Dedicating myself 100% to this was not easy, I had to learn many weaving techniques, to combine fabrics and the most difficult of all is that I had to learn to please each of the people who came to my workshop to buy. There are clients who just tell you I want this and I just ask the sex of the baby or the color they want to combine, but on the other hand there are others who are very demanding or indecisive and then they want to supervise every detail of the work.
On the other hand there is the fact that each thing has its value and you have to know how to charge for your work, your knowledge. You and only you are the one who must give value to your work, I always talk about this to my friends in the needle community where I love to publish since I am in Hive.
I encourage them to value the work we do and charge what is fair, so you will feel satisfied and you will continue to make many more people happy and they will surely come back again and again.
Ah! But don't think that I only make crafts to get extra income, because since January 2018 I had the opportunity to earn cryptocurrency earnings just by publishing my content. Although at the beginning it was very hard I was able to endure and I kept moving forward day after day until Hive arrived, this is where I could really reap the fruit of my determination, my effort, my patience and constancy.
