These days, a lot of pundits talk about the way our world is allegedly entering "a time of abundance."
I'm definitely on board with that idea! Coming from a background of scraping bottom for a really long time a little abundance would be a welcome change!
Sadly, we live in a system that really does not support nor encourage abundance.
How so?
Let's start with the fact that our entire current economic system is built around a scarcity model; we're all (allegedly) competing for resources, hence the high price of so many things we feel "should be" a lot cheaper.
Next... consider that the model we follow in so many aspects of our existence when it comes to striving for so-called "success:" as often as not "success" is a process by which we further our own causes at the expense of somebody else's cause; essentially pushing them out of the way.
Maybe we end up with "abundance," but the other person certainly doesn't! And so — when viewed as a whole — that's not really abundance, is it?
I'm not arguing with the reality that our world is very much based around the idea of "winners and losers" — it absolutely is — but I'm talking about here is the fact that the entire notion of having winners and losers is not an abundance mindset.
In a state of true abundance the whole idea of winners and losers sort of falls away because there's plenty for everyone and you don't need to beat anyone at anything in order to have everything you need.
In a state of such abundance, the whole notion of winners and losers would be limited to such things as sporting events, most likely. On the playing field of life there would be no need for winners and losers as a context there would simply a state of "being" for everyone.
Maybe this all sounds very new age and woo woo to somebody but I'm going to venture forth that it really isn't; it's more a case of practical application.
And no, abundance isn't "socialism," either... it's not about handouts it's simply about (metaphorically speaking) knowing that when you show up for lunch, there's enough lunch for everyone so you don't have to hustle people out of the way to make sure you get lunch!
So what's my point here?
A lot of people say they want abundance, but only a minority actually think that through to the point of examining what that truly means, and how a change in psychology will likely be as important as a change of systems.
Of course, I'm not claiming to have any answers... just examining possibilities.
