There has never been any doubt that I am an introvert.
That doesn't mean that I am shy, or that I dislike people, nor do I suffer from any kind of social phobias or anxieties.
I simply prefer to be alone, most of the time.
If I had to describe the experience of being an introvert — as I experience it — it would be to say that I find being around people (especially more than a handful at a time) to be utterly exhausting.
As such, it may sound a bit strange that I willingly go and participate in events with substantial crowds, such as the one we are part of, this weekend.
Holiday markets are very busy places, and — as a vendor — you pretty much have to be "on", all the time.
Consequently, at the end of an eight hour day of being "Mr. Salesman," I end up extremely tired.
Tomorrow morning, the alarm will go off at 7:00 am again, and we'll be headed out for day two of the current event.
And then we'll be doing the whole thing again, at a different venue, next Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Regulars to these pages likely already know that I am not the most ambitious person on the planet! I'd just as well be sitting at home, writing blog posts and just listing items to sell in my eBay store.
But it takes these kinds of face-to-face events to really increase exposure, and to help seriously pay some bills.
And that's an important consideration.
Much as I'd like to think otherwise, online sales alone just aren't enough.
I definitely admire some of my colleagues who do this sort of thing almost every weekend, every year. I'm just not that social and never really have been.
But our world is really set up for social, and I so often read about how we humans are "social creatures." I just don't feel very social, and some of those weird challenges like "spend 100 days in complete solitude!" sound more like a welcome period of peace and quiet than the nightmare it is touted to be.
This weekend I am just "playing the game," as the majority of the world sees it.
And with that thought, I'm going to wrap up this day and get a little sleep before we go again.
