There are certain times in life where I look at something and just don't "get it."
For example, today I am busying myself with listing items for sale on eBay... something I do regularly, since I actually have three microbusinesses that all have eBay accounts as the mainstay of their sales incomes.
Anyway... I am looking at comparisons to similar items previously sold as a guideline for how to price.
And then I come across one of those things I don't "get:" How does it make sense for a seller to list something for sale for $8.95 with "Free Shipping" when I know perfectly well that the item they are selling will cost about $12.00 to ship?
Unless I am really bad at math, that looks like deliberately taking a $3.00 "bath" on the sale.
Some might make the point that "Well, they are not looking to make MONEY on it, they just want to get RID of it!"
Sure. But you can take it to your local thrift or re-use store for FREE.
Not to mention the fact that they will also have to fork over about 12% of the sales receipts to eBay in fees and they will have to pay about 3% for payment processing.
What gives? What am I missing?
Even if they were running a charity and didn't care about the sale price, it still doesn't make sense that it cost more to make the sale than you are getting.
I'm going to leave this post fairly short, because I need to get back to eBay... just decided to put this here as an example of one of those little "jolts" we perhaps all get, sometimes.
Thanks for stopping by!
