Most economists and sociologists will argue that we live in a time where people are (generally) better off than at any other time in Human History.
Whenever I hear one of these assertions, I am always interested in the perspective and life experience of the person who would say such a thing. Invariably, a story tends to have multiple perspectives...
Seems to me that a lot of people are trying very hard to make something of themselves in a world that has very little to offer or reward them with. Even so, we keep trying, don't we?
Today, we started in on a new month, and I am doing my best to feel hopeful about that. Acknowledging that we all have our experiences, 2025 started off at least "OK," but by about the first week of April, pretty much everything seemed to just grind to a halt.
It's not something I am imagining; it's something that's reflected very clearly in my ectual business bookkeeping, which I updated today.
A friend suggested that I would have a lot less stress if I stopped worrying about "how we're doing" from a perspective of income and money.
Esier said than done, when every cent you bring in is already accounted for ands to go towards basic bills. As the old (half-joke) saying goes: "Seems like there's always month left over at the end of the money."
Makes me really glad that we do have a plan in the works towards a smaller and cheaper way of living. Hopefully we'll get there before the whole world implodes!
I suppose that "misery loves company," but some friends of ours are selling their house and moving their life into an RV... not entirely by choice, but by necessity. They are retired and on fixed income, and that income being "fixed" is not keeping up with spiralling increases in the cost of living.
Some different friends — retired and in their late 60's — are actually finding themselves having to UN-retire and head back to work because they realized that their retirement savings would run out much too soon, if they remained retired.
Not fun. You work all your life and try to save up for your old age... and when it comes, you end up going back to work at a minimu wage "grunt job" to keep yourself from becoming homeless.
As I have said before, I am grateful that Mrs. Denmarkguy and I both have work that is not "age related," so we can keep going indefinitely, as long as our health holds out.
So much for sitting on a beach with one of those drinks with a little umbrella in it!
But enough of all this downer-think... I am being mildly optimistic because a new month has started!
Thanks for stopping by, and have a great weekend!
