For Day 59 of The 100 Day Challenge I'm going to try and create four mixed media index cards. There will be many layers which means I can go back downstairs and rest in between the creating. I'm loosely following the process and ShanoukiArt so I don't have to think too much.
Step 1
Add some glue stick to the cards, press on some torn vintage book pages, wait for glue to dry then tear papers removing that which has not adhered.
Sounds easy enough except I can't find my glue sticks so had to use one that's turned rubbery.
I have a spare one in the attic which has gone missing and four new ones downstairs which have also gone AWOL. Maybe they are hanging out with the missing guitar pic.
Tearing off the paper resulted in very little being left so I tried again with a glue stick I dug out of the bin. I dug out the glue with an old credit card which made a bit of a mess but I'm left with more texture than on my first attempt.
Now we just have to see if the excess glue on the card will interfere with the steps that follow.
Step 2
Spray on some distress ink.
Hmmm.I don't have any of that so I'll have to improvise.
I pressed an inkpad onto an acryplic stamping plate and then added some water and mixed it together with a paint brush. Let's try and drip that onto the index cards and see how that works . . .
It's OK but the colour is not as deep as it would be had I had some spray ink to use so it doesn't create as much contrast as I'd like and there's less of it. OK for a workaround though.
Step 3
I added some white gesso with my finger to blend in the harsher lines a bit. I didn't take a picture of this step as there wasn't much difference to see.
At this point I was feeling pretty rough again so went downstairs for lunch and a rest . . .
Step 4
The next step was to add some colour.
I applied some bright blue acrylic paint which I added using a piece of card rather than a brush and some pale blue using my finger.
Step 5
Stencil some black paint over the coloured areas.
Step 6
Stencil again but this time with some texture paste.
I didn't really have a suitable stencil for this so I used the black thing you can see in the background. It's a piece of Marks & Spencer food packaging.
I think I actually preferred the cards before Step 6 but maybe I'll change my mind as I move on but for now, that's all I can manage. I need to go back down stairs and rest again.
Hopefully I'll finish these later in the week.
