A long time ago when I was a young man, I back packed through Asia to Europe and the United Kingdom. The English part of the trip was visiting my Mum and Dads families. One of the families had a couple of teenagers. I was over there place for dinner one night and they said I was in for a treat. The treat was Butter Brickle desert. I had never heard of it and have never really been a big desert fan but my younger cousins were pretty excited, as the Butter Brickle was only made and brought out on special occasions.
I thought they called it Butter Brittle because it broke easy or something but have no idea behind the naming or making of it. It was so good I could have eaten the whole tray. A biscuit base with ice cream in the middle, topped with caramel and butterscotch bits.
Butter Brickle
I had forgotten all about this wonderful home made desert and never seen or heard of it again until we were back in England earlier this year visiting the same family and out it came again 30 year later. It definitely brought a smile to my face as tasted just as good as I remembered it from all those years ago. Pretty much the same people around the table but all now grown up with there own families and the next generation of Butter Brittle lovers.
I should really get the receipt and have a go at making it myself but it is probably not that healthy and just way too tempting.
Scotch Eggs are a close second. I wonder if I could find a restaurant that had both Scotch Eggs for a main dish and Butter brittle for desert.
